TWO world class performers provide the music at Grange-over-Sands and District Concert Club's latest show.

Julian Bliss and James Baillieu will be appearing at Victoria Hall, in Grange, on Friday July 8.

A real coup for the club, Julian is one of the world's finest clarinettists. As well as excelling as a concerto soloist, chamber musician, jazz artist, masterclass leader, and tireless musical explorer, he has inspired a generation of young players as guest lecturer and creator of his Leblanc Bliss range of affordable clarinets, which have introduced a substantial new audience to this instrument.

Born in the UK, Julian started playing the clarinet at the age of four and went on to study in the US at the University of Indiana and in Germany under Sabine Meyer. The breadth and depth of his artistry are reflected in the diversity and distinction of his work.

He has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras and has performed chamber music with, among others, Joshua Bell, Helene Grimaud, Steven Isserlis and Steven Kovacevich, and starred in the Queen's Golden Jubilee Prom at the Palace and for her 80th birthday.

He launched the Julian Bliss septet in 2012 at Wigmore Hall and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, creating programmes inspired by Benny Goodman.

James Baillieu, professor of piano accompaniment, chamber music and a vocal coach at the Royal Academy of Music, London, has given solo and chamber recitals throughout Europe and further afield. He collaborates with a wide range of singers and instrumentalists such as the Heath and Elias quartets, Kiri te Kanawa, and Ian Bostridge.

Their very attractive programme includes works by Schumann, Tiberu Olah, Debussy, Messager, Chopin, and Brahms.

The concert starts at 8pm, and tickets are available on the door. Entrance is free to students and accompanied children.
