THERE is little doubt who the most talked-about band at Kendal Calling 2016 is.

Manchester indie outfit Blossoms are the name that's on everyone's lips, as they prepare to launch into the next, and biggest phase of their careers so far.

The five-piece were unsigned when they appeared at the Lake District festival last year, this year they top the bill on the second stage, which will see the Calling Out marquee bursting at the seams later on this evening.

Speaking after their impromptu acoustic set this evening, and ahead of tonight's headline appearance, frontman Tom Ogden told Cumbria Live: "It's mad how far we've come in 12 months – even in the last three or four, and it's about to get madder.

"The enthusiasm for the acoustic set was crazy, they're not usually that rowdy, and it's going to be unbelievable in the tent tonight."

The self-titled debut album is set to be released next Friday, and all signs point to a top five chart position – if not higher.

"It's fizzing, and it's ready to pop," said Tom.

"When the album comes out, it will be our maddest week ever. We've just announced a Manchester show on our album release tour, and it sold out in five minutes. It's insane."

The boys have only just landed after a long-haul flight from Australia, and a festival date in South Korea.

They are in overdrive ahead of the big launch next week, making three appearances in total at Kendal – with a late-night DJ set the last of their obligations. It's a festival they clearly enjoy, having now appeared two years running – and with designs on a Main Stage appearance next summer.

Tom said: "It seems like a great festival. We are a little more organised this year and they've given us more beer! Miles almost got us kicked out last time for nicking beer, but that's not a problem this year.

"We loved last year, this one's going to be great. Of course, we'd love to go one bigger next year."
