UP-AND-COMING indie band The Snuts are preparing for a big summer, which will see them launch a debut EP and also make their festival bow.

The West Lothian four-piece release The Matador next week, and round out July with their first-ever festival date at Cumbria's biggest music festival, Kendal Calling.

Currently unsigned, the young outfit formed two and a half years ago, but really started to make themselves known with the release of their debut single, Glasgow, last summer.

Lead singer Jack Cochrane says that the call to play at Kendal came as a surprise, but they can't wait to win over some new fans.

"Kendal Calling will be our first festival we have played, so naturally we can't wait for it," he says.

"The festival scene has always been something we have been into, and we have always based our entire summers around them.

"Funnily enough, Kendal Calling was one of the first festivals we looked at attending this year as a result of our bread and butter festival, T in the Park, being cancelled. Never did we think we would have the pleasure of playing at it!

"We're looking forward to just being on the same stage as some the bands we have battled through acres of mud to see play before."

Either side of their trip to Cumbria, The Snuts will be going on the road for a series of Scottish dates, including a support slot with The Sherlocks.

With a penchant for anthemic indie, with huge sing-along choruses, they will find favour with some of this year's Kendal Calling headliners, such as Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers and Franz Ferdinand.

Their appearance on the Calling Out stage on the festival's final day - Sunday July 30 - will see the band run through material from the new EP.

Jack says: "We are really excited to release The Matador EP this summer.

"After tireless months of gigging and recording we can't wait to let people here how hard we have been working since the release of our first two singles last year.

"Our primary goal has always been to involve people our music so that is the plan again for this year. We take huge pride in the fact that although our music is predominantly indie, our gigs are filled with people from all walks of life and of all age ranges.

"We like to think our music incorporates everything that festivals are all about - loud tunes, best mates and the good times."

The Matador, by The Snuts, is due to be released on Friday June 30. Catch the band at Kendal Calling, which runs from Thursday July 27 to Sunday 30.
