BLACK metal masters dominate the line-up at the latest Darkness Over Cumbria festival, taking place next month.

Leading names on the UK scene will be heading to Fell Foot Wood on Friday July 6 and Saturday 7, with Ninkharsag and The Infernal Sea set to headline.

The past two years have seen the event attract some of the best-known acts on the extreme metal circuit, and this impressive bill continues in the same vein.

Opening the show at 7pm on the Friday will be Cumbria's own Severe Lacerations. The experienced outfit from up the west coast were recently among the finalists for the county's biggest battle of the bands, Metal 2 the Masses - picking up even more followers with their old school death metal approach.

Manchester D-beat trio Wolfbastard join them on the bill, playing from their upcoming new album, and showcasing their warp-speed punk and black metal-influenced originals.

Crimson Throne released their debut EP last summer and cemented their place as one of the leading lights of the UK black metal scene. They will be playing from the record prior to the headline set.

Ninkharsag wrap up the opening day. The Liverpool-based band started out as guitarist Paul Armitstead's solo project, before rounding out to a full band. They also share a drummer with recent Kerrang Award nominees Venom Prison.

Their old school approach has drawn comparisons to the likes of Emperor, Mayhem, and Dissection.

Another Cumbrian band, Thy Demise, open Day Two, from 5pm. The death metal outfit have recently had a change of vocalist, with former Repulsive Vision frontman Mark Pardy stepping into the role.

And another Manchester trio follow them - Burial are back, having previously appeared at the Blackwood Gathering event at Fell Foot.

Black metal traditionalists Primitive Graven Image are one of the best-established names on the bill, having played the UK's biggest metal events, such as Bloodstock, since the early days of their 12-year existence.

Necronautical have played at the Darkness Over Cumbria festival previously, and are back with a soon-to-be-released third studio album, which they will be showcasing in the Lakes.

Barry of the Black Woods will be performing his famous Moon Pond Ritual before The Infernal Sea close the show. The four-piece have become known for their willingness to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional black metal.

As well as headlining the New Blood stage at Bloodstock, in 2013, they have also supported the likes of Napalm Death, Akercocke and Anaal Nathrakh.

Food and refreshments will be available on site.
