SOUL star Jo Harman will be bringing her new album tour to South Cumbria this month.

The award-winning singer-songwriter will be touring across the world in support of her much-anticipated second studio album, People We Become, calling in at the Brewery Arts Centre, in Kendal, on Friday February 24.

The follow-up to her critically-acclaimed and commercially successful 2013 debut, Dirt On My Tongue, has just been released, with first single When We Were Young arriving in January.

Combining her trademark soul and blues, and Beatles-worthy pop, the new release is a modern album rooted in the classic, timeless music of past generations.

Raised in the South West, Harman found success on her own terms with her debut, and a touring schedule that found her sharing the stage with icons like Patti Smith, Joan Baez and Sinead O’Connor.

Wildly successful for an independent record, Dirt On My Tongue racked up numerous nominations from the British Blues Awards.

Looking to expand her horizons beyond any single genre, she teamed up with her long-time co-writer, Mike Davies, to write new songs that took their cues from some of the classic artists — including Carole King, Cat Stevens and David Bowie.

Released worldwide this month, People We Become marks the biggest leap of Harman’s career.

She headed to Nashville for three weeks, focusing on a warm sound — full of upright piano, unaffected bursts of electric guitar, and the soulful sweep of Harman’s voice.

The resulting album features performances by award-winning players like Tom Bukovac, Greg Morrow, and Gordon Mote — as well as a guest appearance by the Doobie Brothers’ frontman, Michael McDonald, who lends his harmony vocals to When We Were Young.

Her appearance in Kendal on Friday February 24 gets under way at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the venue's box office.
