THE spectacular Another Fine Fest promises to be one of the highlights in Ulverston's calendar once again, with more than 100 live bands, solo artists and DJs, as well as a whole manner of street theatre and live art performers all set to appear.

The event this Saturday will take over the town, to mark the birthday of the town’s most famous son, Stan Laurel.

Now in its third year, the programme this time around once again pulls together the best of the Furness peninsula and acts from afar.

This year there will be 10 venues set aside for music, including the Market Cross, a new Melodrome Stage outside the Roxy Cinema, and the Kings Arms for the first time.

The distinctive Melodrome stage has the carnival look, perfect for the festival - where a host of street shows, drum troupes and circus performances share the billing with live bands. In a similar vein, the Market Cross forms a focal point for the festival with its varied line-up.

The "Big Kings" is an exciting new addition, unveiling its Courtyard Stage to complement the main indoor stage, and neighbouring venue The Mill is set aside for DJ sets for much of the day.

The Farmers is also home to DJ performances and live vocalists, and all three floors are filled in the newly-refurbished Sun Inn, with DJ sets in the Basement Bar, and the beer garden, and 11 female solo acts performing inside throughout the day.

The courtyard at Amigos was a hit last year, where Sonic Zoo will once again curate a line-up of live acts and varied DJ sets, and the Rose & Crown again welcomes a number of travelling acts, with Manchester-based Samsara Sessions curating the music. Many of Furness' most popular live acts make up the bill at the Piel Castle.

As ever, the streets will be awash with colour and action, as yarn-bombers, graffiti artists, circus acts, and buskers, plus a full day of films at the Laurel & Hardy Museum, add to the awesome programme of entertainment.

From around 10am, crowds will also be gathering in Ford Park to participate in what is hoped will be a World Record-breaking pie fight.
