BAFTA nominated entertainer Richard Digance turns musician for an appearance in the Lakes this week.

A comedian and a presenter, he is also well-known on the folk scene and is a Gold Award recipient from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

He is marking 50 years of performing with an extensive UK tour, which calls in at the Browfoot Room, in Ulpha, on Saturday July 22.

Listed in the Virgin Anthology of Music as an influential writer of comedic songs, Digance's varied career has seen him play a duet with Queen's Brian May, work with Steve Martin, perform an acoustic set with Status Quo, and share the stage at The London Palladium with the late Robin Williams.

He has 32 albums to his name, and this Golden Anniversary Tour features songs from throughout his career and stories from his life in the business.

With a BAFTA Nomination as TV Entertainer Of The Year, he turned his back on showbiz for his first love of music and live performance. He has played around 4,000 live shows, and has 62 British tours, 14 books, three stage plays, 32 albums and almost four million YouTube hits to his name.

He composed the audio book music for Bill Bryson’s best-seller The Road To Little Dribbling, his Animal Alphabet poems, serialised by The BBC, are used as English Teaching Aids, in 14 countries from The USA to Swaziland, his guitar instrumentals are used on numerous TV productions, and he also composes incidental and soundtrack music for film, TV, radio, documentaries and audio books - a true all-round entertainer.

Support comes from The Broadside Boys, who have appeared at many of the biggest stages in the folk world, with performances at Folk East, Cambridge Folk Festival, and Ely Folk festival under their belts.

The concert on Saturday July 22 starts at 8.15pm, and tickets are available on the door or in advance from Ulpha Post Office and Broughton Information Centre.
