Walkers cross estuary for Father’s Day treat

A CROSS-ESTUARY walk has been organised for Father’s Day.

By Ian Dunstan

Cedric Robinson, MBE, will lead a walking party across the Duddon Estuary, from Askam to Millom, on Sunday at 5pm.

A contingent from Cumbrian Heavy Horses will join the walking group, mimicking the plight of packhorses that would have used the same route more than 100 years ago.

As there are no trains on Sundays, organisers have arranged for coaches to return walkers to Askam, but places are limited and must be booked in advance. The walk will cost £5 for adults. Under 16s can go free if they are accompanied by a responsible adult. Members of the emergency services can take part in the walk for free.

The event has been organised as part of Black Combe Walking Festival.
