Keswick to Barrow walk now fully subscribed

This year’s Keswick to Barrow is now fully subscribed, with almost 3,000 walkers having signed up.

As of 12.15pm today (Monday January 28) a total of 332 teams have submitted entries, with 2,963 walkers.

A further 92 teams are in the process of entering and organisers have said the event is now fully subscribed, just two weeks after registration opened on January 14 at www.keswick2barrow.co.uk

This year is the 47th event. The 40-mile route, for teams and individuals, takes in some of the Lake District’s most beautiful scenery and this year’s event is due to take place on May 11.

Around 400 walkers have signed up to the shorter, 23-mile walk from Coniston to Barrow, which is around 75 per cent of the maximum capacity.

In 2010, 35 walkers took on the Coniston to Barrow, followed by 160 in 2011 and 317 in 2012.

Last year almost 2,500 people took part in the Keswick to Barrow walk, raising more than £310,000 for charities.

Organisers are urging teams of between six and 12 walkers to sign up early for the event.

The walk starts at Rough How Bridge, three miles south of Keswick, and follows a route through the Lake District before finishing at Hawcoat Park Sports Club in Barrow.

Have your say

Cant believe Sean "showbiz" Nicholson thinks he's going to finish it this year.
