Steeplechase Dinner at Holker Hall
Last updated at 15:25, Friday, 31 August 2012
RACING action at Cartmel may have been limited last weekend, thanks to some unseasonal downpours, but many beat the rain to make it to the second annual Steeplechase Dinner.
Race fans, sponsors and members attended a formal dinner at Holker Hall last Friday to show their support for Cartmel Racecourse.
Jonathan Garrett, managing director of Cartmel Racecourse, says: “The purpose of the dinner is to celebrate the races, and it is a good chance for people who support the races to come together and enjoy an evening at Holker Hall.
“We handed out a couple of cheques to charity, including one to the Injured Jockeys Fund, which was collected by Leslie Gillies, whose son, Campbell, was a very promising jockey who unfortunately died in a swimming pool accident this year.
“Obviously, it was a big disappointment that the racing couldn’t go ahead, and we will have lost a lot of money because of that, but you just have to reflect on some of the people in the room, like Leslie, and realise there are much worse things in the world that can happen.”
