MILLOM warm-up for the start of the Cumbria League season by welcoming Fleetwood to Wilson Park tomorrow.

The annual pre-season fixture comes a week before the start of the real action (2.30pm kick-off).

Millom travelled to Cumbria League rival sFurness last week, and although they lost the encounter, they are looking forward to the season ahead after some strong performances.

Travelling with a squad of 27 players has given new coach Adam Redhead real selection issues, but good one, for both first and second-team selection going into the new season.

He said: “The way our lads played last week gives me confidence that we can have a successful season for both teams.

“We have a young, powerful squad, and they are coming on and working hard in training. It showed in the game on Saturday.”

He added: Fleetwood will be a difficult test, and that’s what I’m looking for. I want the lads to be challenged so they can be prepared for the coming season.”

Trevor Dixon has been awarded the captaincy for the season. He has been one of Millom’s best players since he was 17 and, at the age of 25, will lead the team from the front and by example.

Anyone is interested joining the Millom ranks can attend trainings sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Wilson Park, Haverigg, starting at 6.30pm.
