A DERBY clash against Windermere is in store for Millom’s senior team as they play their first home game at Wilson Park since the turn of the year in the Cumbria League tomorrow.

Both sides are looking strong ahead of the game, which sees eighth-placed Millom aiming to close the gap on an Ambers side who sit directly above and six points ahead of them in the table.

Furness are on home turf too, facing a re-run of last Saturday’s Cumbria League Cup match against Cockermouth and will be aiming for a similar result, while Cumbria League Two action sees Ambleside head to Creighton.

Elsewhere, Hawcoat Park travel to bottom-of-the-table Workington Zebras in the North Lancs/Cumbria League and their second team look to build on last week’s win in the cup when they travel to Orrel St James.

MILLOM v WINDERMERE

(Wilson Park, 2.15pm)

WILSON Park sees a first-team game for the first time this year as Millom take on the might of Windermere.

The last time Millom were at home was back in November, so they will be looking forward to some home comforts.

The Millom squad is boosted as both Adam Redhead and James Wilson return to the fold, along with Matty Jordan, if he passes a late fitness test.

The front five look strong too, with skipper Ian Cummings and Steve Watson at prop alongside hooker Dean Doyle, pushing Keiron Coulson and Kieran Rogan into the engine room.

The back row look impressive with the return of the ever-improving Wilson a big fillip for the team. He is supported by Joseph Laydon and the in-form David Thompson, who scored a good try for the second string last week, which helped earn his call-up.

The men in the middle, Craig Mounsey and Chris Park, link up at nine and 10 to give Millom a good base going forward. Trevor Dixon will aim to make an impact at centre alongside Ryan Carter, while wingers Kyle Barnes and Si Robertson will be looking to make inroads into the opposition half, along with John Falconer at full-back.

Windermere, for their part, will be looking to try to get on top early doors through front-row trio Jamie Hardman, Dan Harrison and Luke Todd. They will be hopeful of keeping the second row intact, with Josh Dawson and Tadhg Butler a more-than-capable pairing.

The dynamic back row of Connor Mayer, Joe Hallam and John Sheasby will need to be on top form to get to the breakdown first and give scrum-half Moses Dawson good clean ball so he has half a chance of getting the backs away, led by fly-half Bertie Hodgson.

Wingers Tom Atkinson and Liam Garnett will cross the whitewash if given the chance by centres Jamie Dootson and Josh Wheatley, and full-back Simeon Lee will need his wits about him to control the game as only he can.

FURNESS v COCKERMOUTH

(Strawberry Grounds, 2.15pm)

FURNESS are on home turf again in a repeat of last week’s Cumbria League Cup game against Cockermouth, where the Blues came away victors 24-17

The great news for Furness is an unchanged pack, which sees captain Rhys Studt in an immense back-row alongside Corne Els and Joe Mallinson. They will want to make the most of Martin Ward’s availability as he will be moving back to Ireland soon.

He will be joined by coach Dillan Taputu in the second row, with the trio up front made up of Paul Dean, Ben Hughes and Leon Sweet. The back line will see Steve Perry missing, along with Ryan Cunningham, who is also returning home.

A big loss could well be Adam Jackson, who is touch-and-go to be available. The silky skill set of Craig McKinnon may well be called upon to help control the back line with his no-nonsense approach, with Jordan Ashton at scrum half spraying ball to the stalwart.

Tez Nueto has been enjoying the centres and he will be hopeful of retaining his new role. Adam Nicholson is hoping to return to the squad, along with Matty Studt.

WORKINGTON ZEBRAS v HAWCOAT PARK

HAWCOAT are off up the west coast as they take on Workington.

Despite Zebras being near the bottom of the North Lancs/Cumbria League, their home turf is always a hard place to take the points.

Selection issues start straight away up front for Hawcoat, with Jason Priss, Andy Kent, John Donnan and Ryan Milner all vying for a prop shirt to join hooker Adam Grainger up front.

There is no breaking the second-row partnership of Ash Mowat and skipper Dan White, as the dominant pair continue to control the set-piece. With no Callum Ramsey, the back row is set to be Will Mallinson, Mike Lightfoot and the returning Johnny Burrows.

Jack Shannon will get the shout for the scrum half shirt and will have George Smith for company at fly-half. Last week’s A-team hat-trick hero Will Coles plays on the wing and will be joined by fellow wide man Glen Kaighan. The centres see Chris Burns and Matty Sayle renew their partnership, but with Jack Sutherland also available, the team sheet could still change.

ORRELL ST JAMES v HAWCOAT PARK A

HAWCOAT A are on the road to Orrell as they look to continue their rich vein of form. There are a few changes from last week’s team, although Ryan Brown and a Paul Woodburn will still be up front and will see Jordan Garnett return to hooker.

Rory Sayle, Charlie Butterworth, Martin Kennedy and the returning Kyle Waterson will be looking for for a second-row shirt and will possibly see Harrison O’Brien, Joe Rea and another returnee, Austin Meadows, taking the team forward from the back row.

The scrum half shirt will go to either Adam Williamson or Scott Garnett and whichever one it is will link up with either Lewis Sayle or Will Howard.

Regular centres Dave Wynne and Jay Crowe will be alongside Rodni Odandi and Dan Hayes, with new boys Dave Whiteside and Leon Abba also looking for a start.

CREIGHTON v AMBLESIDE

AMBLESIDE clash with table-toppers Creighton as they look to move up the Cumbria League Two standings and go in unchanged, underlining the strong continuity in the team.

Mike Gibson, Greg Stevenson and Mike Blakeston steady the ship from the front three, with captain Paul Longster teaming up with regular second-row partner Jacob Taylor. Pip Houghton, Greg Machino and Cyril Latheskeep hold on to their back- row jerseys too.

Young Keenan Longster continues to excite at scrum half, which will see him alongside the superb Peter Holgate at fly-half.

Centre-field sees Steven Matthews and Matt Middlemiss at its helm.

Ambleside will be looking to try-scoring machine Tim Horsfall and Rory Townsend to finish off opportunities that come their way, with explosive full-back Lewis Kelly always on hand for what is bound to be a tough game.
