Hawcoat Park A 45 Didsbury Toc H 3rds 18

HAWCOAT Park A advanced in the Raging Bull Cup with a convincing home win over Didsbury.

The visitors started well, looking to move the ball at any opportunity, and going into a 3-0 lead when a penalty was awarded and converted on 11 minutes.

There was an immediate home response as, from the restart deep in the Hawcoat half, young Connor McDermott showed great ability in rounding players at pace to finish a great individual try. James Howden converted for 7-3.

The lead was extended in the 20th minute with another good try for the spectators as Will Mallinson made great ground into the Didsbury half and set the platform. The backs to fed Rodney Odondi on the wing and he was in full flight to cut inside his opposite number and run the ball under the posts. Howden again converted.

The points kept coming as another team try starting with the forwards driving and recycling, turning the opposition again and again, saw them commit the opposition backs.

Play was transferred to the slick Hawcoat backs, where Jay Crowe ran in the try with two supporting players to spare. Howden added the extras for a 21-3 lead at half-time.

The second half was only five minutes old when the impressive Mallinson scored another five points.

Ryan Brown then drove down the middle, supported by Pat Samiento and Liam Burns, and scrum half Jack Shannon made the link from the ruck to McDermott. He showed balanced, direct running to slice through the Didsbury centres and score. Howden’s boot made it 33-3.

In response, Didsbury put some strong forward drives together, which resulted in a deserved try out wide.

But Hawcoat were quick on the attack again, Lewis Sayle breaking the line and feeding McDermott. He put a delicate kick ahead for young Dan Armistead to gather off the wing and score, making it 38-8.

With 10 minutes to go, Park scored their final try as forward inter-passing set Will Coles to run well onto the ball and score. Howden converted,

With the hosts making a few substitutions and Didsbury performing better in the forwards, the visitors scored two late tries in consolation.

Referee Ciaran Trainor controlled the game well, having a great feel as to how the match should be enjoyed at this level.
