Hawcoat Park 48 Upper Eden 0

SKIPPER Dan White led the way for Hawcoat Park again as his hat-trick of tries helped them storm to a 48-0 victory at home to Upper Eden.

The Maroons were in a confident mood following the previous week's victory over North Lancs/Cumbria League leaders Fleetwood.

But they went into this match knowing previous encounters between the two side had traditionally been close.

However, Hawcoat's pack laid the foundations for a dominant performance and White got the home side on the board early on when he received the ball from a line-out and charged in from 25 metres, with James Howden converting.

White's second followed soon after – again coming from a line-out in the Upper Eden 22, but this time by snapping up a misdirected throw from the visiting hooker and scampering away for another converted try.

Upper Eden rallied and it needed some strong displays at the breakdown from back row duo Callum Ramsay and Mike Lightfoot, as well as Will Mallinson, plus solid defensive work from centres Jack Sutherland and Chris Burns, to keep the away side at bay.

Hawcoat's third try came on 25 minutes when scrum-half Jonny Burrows recycled the ball for Adam Grainger to slip an inside pass to Ryan Milner, who scored under the posts to give Howden a simple conversion attempt.

The bonus point was secured just before half-time, with the ball passing through the hands of Howden and George Smith to Burns, who went over in the corner for an unconverted score and a 26-0 lead at the interval.

Full-back Smith got on the scoresheet himself 15 minutes after the restart, taking a pass from Mallinson and going over for an unconverted try wide on the left.

That was followed by Ashley Mowat and man-of-the-match White putting the seal on the win with further tries, and Howden kicking another conversion.
