A QUIET weekend beckons on the rugby union front, but Hawcoat Park and Millom will both break the silence.

Knockout games come to the forefront, with Hawcoat facing Whitehaven in the Cumbria Cup, while Millom make up one of their Cumbria League games at Wilson Park.

WHITEHAVEN v HAWCOAT PARK

THE Maroon and Whites travel to West Cumbria looking to take a tough scalp in the county cup.

Whitehaven who have been playing some great rugby of late in the Cumbria League, especially now their rugby league converts are available.

For their part, another unlucky defeat against Oldham last week sees Hawcoat nearly there, and about to turn the corner, so it looks like a battle on the cards in the west of the county.

John Donnan returns in a strong Park front three, and is joined by Adam Grainger and big Ryan Milner.

The second row sees Ash Mowat team up with Rory Sayle, who last week added scrum half to his portfolio of positions, but is sure to be be happy to be back in the pack.

In the back row, Mike Lightfoot returns, which is a big lift for the side, and he is joined by young Joe Rea, who is loving his spell in the first team, and the experience of Callum Ramsey.

Skipper Brad Morrow moves to scrum half, where he links up with James Howden at fly-half in what should be a great combination.

Rodney Odandi and Will Coles are the wide men looking to put points on the board, with Lewis Sayle and Chris Burns the centres inside them.

With Blain Marwood at full-back, and a strong bench, it could be the game of the weekend.

Hawcoat A team have a bye through to the quarter-finals of the Brooke Edgley Shield, as scheduled opponents Hoylake have had to pull out of the competition due to a huge injury list

MILLOM v SILLOTH

(Wilson Park, 2.15pm)

MILLOM welcome Silloth to Wilson Park tomorrow in need of points to climb off the foot of the Cumbria League.

With a number of key people missing through work commitments and attendance at the autumn internationals, the Blue and Whites are utilising the big squad they have.

The match-day line-up has been named, with final positions to be confirmed on the day.

Kieran Rogan, skipper Dean Doyle and Steve Watson appear set to pull on the front-row jerseys, though Callums Lamont and Loughran may have something to say about that, as they are more than capable of holding their own.

Coach Adam Redhead should line up in the back three, along with Joe Laydon and Matty Jordan.

The forwards can also call on Kieran Coulson and new face Charlie Elmslie.

Ryan Carter will need to lead the back line, with Craig Mounsey on hand to help out with the inexperienced line-up.

Scott Fisher will have his full skillset on show, along with speedster Kyle Barnes, who may well stay out wide on the wing.

Dom O'Brien and Bobby Wright will need to be on top form, with Joe Moyes there to keep the ball moving.

Fingers are crossed that George Quint, Steven Rodgers and Jordan Moyes are able to play to give the squad a stronger feel.
