FURNESS look to upset Cumbria League pacesetters Keswick, while Millom experience the rarity of Friday night rugby at Egremont.

In the North Lancs/ Cumbria League, Hawcoat Park will look to get back to winning ways at Aldwinians after suffering a rare home defeat last time out.

Furness v Keswick

(Strawberry Grounds, 3pm)

CUMBRIA League table-toppers Keswick are the visitors to the Strawberry Grounds tomorrow.

The Blues will be hoping the game is on after missing out on both league and cup action in the last couple of weeks because of the weather.

The front row shows strength, with Paul Dean, Ben Hughes and Leon Sweet taking on the Keswick front three. Dan Scott plays alongside James Tyson in the engine room with what looks like being a dominant back row of captain Rhys Studt leading Tom Brannon and Corne Els into battle.

Scrum half Jordan Ashton keeps his place and will have the dancing shoes of Craig McKinnon outside him. Dillan Taputu looks like he could be in the back line alongside Tom Breakwell at centre and Rhys Humphries on one wing and Ryan Cunningham on the other.

Full-back Alex Brown will need to be on his toes from the off bring the rest of the backs into play.

Egremont v Millom

(Tonight, 7.15pm)

MILLOM travel to Egremont tonight to play under the floodlights – which is something a bit different for the Cumbria League. The Wilson Parkers are on a high after some strong performances of late.

Last week’s home win against Cockermouth shows they are a strong side and not to be taken lightly.

Ian Cummings has been leading by example – scoring four tries in the last two weeks.

Other strong performers, John Falconer, Trevor Dixon, Adam Redhead and young guns Joseph Tomlinson and Kieron Coulson, have injected fresh impetus into Millom’s season and they will be full of confidence.

Millom versus Egremont games are always tough encounters and the physical demands of the game will be matched with Millom’s heavy pack. Steven Watson, Kieron Rogan and Dean Doyle do not mind doing the hard work if it allows the scoreboard to keep ticking over.

Millom A v Ambleside

(Wilson Park, 3pm)

MILLOM A are looking to their youth to take on Ambleside.

With a good mix of young and older heads, Millom have Tony Swales, Callum Lamont and young Callum Loughran in the front three, with James Wilson and Steven Forster pulling on the second-row jerseys.

Kev Rogan will be in the thick of it from the back row, with Joe Fisher never far from his shoulder.

Si Robertson at stand-off is coming on great guns and will want plenty of ball for Adam Sloan and Jamie Rice, who in turn, will release widemen Michael Ryce and Mikey Tyson. Mike Holmes brings up the rear from full-back in what looks a more than capable team.

Ambleside once again look to go unchanged and skipper Paul Longster is enjoying the continuity they have in the squad.

Lewis Kelly, at full-back, is a great find and his defence and attack help to bring widemen Tim Horsfall and Rory Townsend into play.

Fly-half Peter Holgate will be looking to Keenan Longster for good quick ball to help get the back line away. The back row of Pip Houghton, Gregg Machino and Cyrill Lathes will be their industrious selves and contest the breakdowns fully.

Jacob Taylor will join his captain in the second row as they both look to push the front three of Mike Blakeston, Mike Gibson and Gregg Stevenson on in the tight and the loose. Centres Matthew Middlemiss and Steven Matthews will look to take on Millom at all times in their pursuit of points.

Aldwinians v Hawcoat Park

AFTER a shock 19-17 home defeat to Trafford MV, Hawcoat find themselves on the road to Manchester.

It is a mid-table North Lancs/Cumbria League clash with Park almost unchanged.

However, they are likely to be missing skipper Dan White and hooker Adam Grainger, both big losses.

The front row of John Donnan, Andy Kent and Ryan Milner will be up to the job in hand and will look to get on top from the off. Ash Mowat has Callum Ramsey for company in a second row which still shows great strength.

The return of Tim Clarke to the side has been a bonus and he will be joined by Mike Lightfoot and skipper-on-the-day Will Mallinson.

Jack Shannon gets the nod after injury to Jonny Burrows last week in what will be the last game for a while as he goes under the knife for a knee operation.

His link-up partner is clubman James Howden, who will need to be on top form to keep Aldwinians on the back foot. Will Coles and Glenn Kaighan could be the wide men looking for points with Chris Burns and George Smith inside them hoping to give them plenty of ball to get them away. Lewis Sayle concludes selection at full-back.

Bury A v Hawcoat Park A

AFTER last week’s superb 13-12 quarter-final win in the Raging Bull Cup against unbeaten Tyldesley, Hawcoat seconds are at Bury in league action.

Despite there being a few players missing, the Maroons will be a tough nut to crack.

Scott Garnett at scrum half has been coming on leaps and bounds of late and could find himself partnering the returning Will Howard at fly-half, who has been missing for some time due to shift work.

Paul Woodburn is hopeful of recovering from a knock and will lead from the front with his faithful front row partner Ryan Brown as his partner in crime. Young Charlie Butterworth continues to improve, as does former Colt Joe Rea, who will both feature strongly.

Dave Wynne will lead the team and he will have his centre partner Jay Crowe back from sunnier climbs as his right-hand man.

Matt Robson and Peter Steele will be the backbone of the pack. Jonny Moses’s return sees himself put his hat in the ring and he will join fellow backs Rodney Odandi, Robert Shepherd, Dan Hayes and last week’s debutant Will Martin in what looks a good strong team.
