FURNESS look to get back to winning ways in the Cumbria League as they take on Windermere, while Hawcoat Park and Millom also enjoy home comforts.

Hawcoat take on Silloth in the North Lancs/Cumbria competition and Millom entertain Cockermouth in the Cumbria League.

FURNESS v WINDERMERE

SECOND-IN-THE-TABLE Furness are at home for the second week running as they face a strong Windermere side at the Strawberry Grounds.

Furness were very unlucky not to come away with the points against Kendal seconds last weekend, when decisions went against them and Rhys Studt was sent off as they drew the match 19-19.

Windermere, for their part, were defeated 36-19 at home by Egremont and will most certainly be looking to turn the tables on their Cumbria League counterparts.

Furness will look to stay unchanged as much as possible with George Smith running the show from fly half.

The back division will have the boot of Steve Perry to rely on with possibly Sam Attard returning to the fold to get as much ball as possible to paceman Tez Nueto so he can use his massive skill set.

Corne Els, skipper Joe Burger and Mike Botes will look to control the game from the back row with the strong running of Martin Ward and Paul Dean always a worry for the opposition. Will Hetherington will be looking to keep his shirt in the squad after scoring last week.

Windermere will be no pushovers, especially with the return of Dan Harrison at hooker with Jamie Hardman and Ian Todd in the front three backing him up.

Graham Benson moves from the second row to the back row to link up with Tom Haynes and Jon Sheasby who are a real handful when on their game. This looks like being the game of the weekend with either team capable of winning.

HAWCOAT PARK v SILLOTH

HAWCOAT Park are at home in a mid-table clash against Silloth, who sit one place below them.

Both teams had great wins last week with Hawcoat winning on the road at Ashton 17-0 and Silloth beating Whitehaven 38-14 at home, so this game could well be a tight affair.

The maroon and whites will have to make some changes as key personnel are missing. Grady Slater, Glenn Kaighan and Andy Kent are not available and Euan James is doubtful after breaking his nose on his first-team debut last week.

Coming into the squad, James Howden and Andy Graham can take control of the back line and Patrick Samiento and Jonny Burrows could also feature. Matt Burrows will be looking to get a chance out wide to finish off the quick backs’ moves.

The solid proposition of Jason Priss and Brad Morrow will join John Donnan and Samiento in the front three with Ash Mowat and Will Mallinson no doubt stiffening up the second row.

This should be a home win, but don’t under-estimate Silloth.

MILLOM v COCKERMOUTH

WITH no game last weekend, Millom will have fresh legs at home as they take on Cockermouth who stand one place below them in Cumbria 1.

Cockermouth were beaten 10-0 at home last week by Keswick so Millom will be looking to pounce on this blow to their confidence and take the points to move up the table.

This is Wilson Park’s first game in five weeks as they look to give some of the superb talent in the youth section a run-out. Missing are Trevor Dixon, and the Wilson brothers – Craig and James – due to work commitments, but continuing his role in the team is Ian Cummings from second row.

Joining Cummings will be Joe Thomlinson who has come through the current U-17s set-up with great aplomb. Keiron Coulson will be looking to get a run in the team with Craig Mounsey and Dean Redhead in the back row. Jarty Robinson keeps his number 11 shirt with Jordan Moyes taking up the opposite side. Chris Park will give the backs all the chances they need to get over the whitewash.

EGREMONT A v HAWCOAT PARK A

HAWCOAT Park seconds are on the road as they face Egremont.

Table-toppers Hawcoat had a superb win at home against second-placed Workington 31-15 last time out, so they will be looking to continue their winning ways as they travel up the west coast of the county. Martin Kennedy will be looking to his troops to keep up their winning ways with Lewis Sayle controlling proceedings.

Liam Glew is turning out to be one of the finds of the season along with the rapid progression of Rodney Odandi who cannot be far off a first-team call-up.

The superb Chris Milby has been having a great run of games which has seen him get the man of the match award time and again for his tackling and strong running.

Matt Robson and Ryan Brown will stiffen up the front three with Paul Woodburn always on hand to take the ball on.

Veteran Dave Wynne is scoring at will at the moment so he will be looking to keep up his rich vein of form. This season has also seen new boy Adam Sadler showing up well along with Jay Crowe and stalwart Adam Williamson.

ST BENEDICTS v FURNESS A

FURNESS seconds are on the road for a second week on the run when they travel to a hot bed of rugby in St Benedicts.

Furness were beaten 47-0 at Aspatria last week so they will be looking to turn their season around. Mike Backhouse made his Furness return last week and unless he gets called into the first team he will be looking to keep the ball in hand.

Mark Hall is likely to be missing due to a nasty knock, but with Scott Lancaster, Kristian Conaghan and Ben Livesey around they should help plug the gap.

The squad will be hopefully see Brandon Edmondson, Alex Shuttleworth and Scott Lancaster all available to make the journey west.
