TWO South Cumbrian sides go head-to-head tomorrow when Furness welcome Windermere to the Strawberry Grounds.

Both teams go into the match having suffered defeats in the Cumbria League last week, but close to full strength and going all-out for the win.

Elsewhere, Hawcoat Park look to continue their good run in North Lancs/Cumbria when they head to bottom side Silloth, while Ambleside aim to build on their victory over Workington at home to Aspatria in Cumbria League Two.

Hawcoat’s second team welcome Tyldsley seconds as they set their sights on staying top in the Raging Bull League Division Four North.

FURNESS v WINDERMERE

(Strawberry Grounds, 2.15pm)

FURNESS are on home turf as they face close rivals Windermere, and they look in good fettle, apart from Johnny Sloan – who is suffering with a broken jaw.

Corne Els returns to stiffen the forwards up, along with Martin Ward, and the pair could well be in the second row together.

Up front, Ben Hughes will be looking to Paul Dean and Leon Sweet to continue in their powerhouse approach in the tight and the loose.

With Joe Mallinson and Ryhs Studt in the back row, Furness have an awesome pairing more than capable of snaffling ball.

Jordan Ashton looks to keep his scrum -half shirt and will link up with the talented Adam Jackson at fly-half.

The experience of Steve Perry in the backs is invaluable, and with young guns Reece Humphries and brother Iestyn in tow, an exciting back line looks to be coming together.

The backs will look to Alex Brown to tidy up any loose ball, and will be hopeful of the return of Sam Attard to the squad.

With Mark Hall, Alex Mason and hopefully Tez Nueto throwing his hat into the ring, the Blues are nearly at full strength.

Windermere are no push overs when at full strength, so they will be looking to the might of skipper Jamie Hardman and the guile of Dan Harrison to try to break down the Furness door. Luke Todd joins them in the front row, with former Blues second row Tadhg Butler and John Benson in the engine room.

The dynamic back row of Conor Mayer, Joe Hallam and John Sheasby will have a fight on their hands in what will be a great battle.

Dan Neild and Bertie Hodgeson continue in the half-back roles, and will look to get clean ball to centres James Dootson and former wing man Moses Dawson.

The men out wide, Tom Atkinson and Liam Garnett, can score at will given the opportunity, so ball through hands is a must for the travelling team. Andy Duncan will have to be on his mettle at full-back as he will have a busy day if the boot of Perry and Jackson gets into gear.

SILLOTH v HAWCOAT PARK

HAWCOAT Park are on the road to bottom club Silloth after their superb home victory against Wigton last weekend and a virtually unchanged Maroon and Whites team will be favourites to come away with the points.

All of the first-choice props are available, with Jason Priss, Ryan Milner, John Donnan and Andy Kent vying for the two places alongside hooker Adam Graiger.

The excellent second row combination of Ash Mowat and captain Dan White should continue their dominance, along with the strong back row of Mike Lightfoot, Will Mallinson and Callum Ramsey, who are a force to be reckoned with on their day.

Johnny Burrows continues in his scrum half role as he builds a partnership with the outstanding George Smith at fly-half, where they will look to get good ball away to the back line.

There, Matty Sayle will be looking to team up with centre partner Chris Burns, while wing men Glenn Kaighan and Will Coles look for good early ball to put Silloth under pressure.

Elliot McDermott will be steadying the ship from full-back as a strong squad heads to the north of the county.

HAWCOAT PARK A v TYLDSLEY

(Hawcoat Park, 2.15pm)

HAWCOAT A are on home turf in a top-of-the-table clash against Tyldsley.

If last week’s home win 51-5 against Bolton is anything to go by, this will be a humdinger.

Paul Woodburn, Joe Rea and Ryan Brown looked after the opposition last week and will be on their toes to continue their dominance.

Young Charlie Butterworth could be linking up with Rory Sayle in the second row, giving good ground going forward.

Stalwart Adam Grainger at scrum half will have Johnny Moses or Euan James partnering him at fly-half, with Jay Crowe, Dave Wynne and Eric Hill fighting for the centre berths.

Out wide, Josh Archer, Dan Hayes and Rob Shepherd will be a match for anyone, and Joe Ward at full-back has been a revelation this season.

With Matt Robson and Pete Jennens in the back row and more to confirm availability, they will look to send their counterparts back down the M6 having taken the points.

AMBLESIDE v ASPATRIA

(Galava Park, 2.15pm)

GALAVA Park has had a busy couple of weeks, with Workington playing there last week and hopefully Aspatria tomorrow.

Ambleside look to build on a 10-0 win, which came thanks to a great effort with a late converted penalty try and shows how much the team has progressed.

Talisman Alfie White returns to the back row, where he will link up with Andrew Clayton and Greg Machino.

Mike Gobson switches to the front row with White back in the side, and will be joined by Gregg Stevenson and Pip Houghton.

Skipper Paul Logster and his second-row partner Jacob Taylor will look to dominate the set-piece to help the hands of last week’s man-of-the- moment, Keenan Longster, get the ball off to his fellow backs.

Pete Holgate at fly-half will want quick ball to allow him to get Matt Middlemiss and Steven Matthews away in the centres, in turn giving them time to get Tom Atkinson and Rory Townsend up and running on the wings.

With the dependable Lewis Kelly at full-back, the team is more than capable of taking the points.
