FURNESS Rugby Union Club are holding a tag rugby event this Sunday as part of their plans to resurrect their Crusaders junior section.

The seven-a-side tag competition will see junior and senior teams in action at the Strawberry Grounds and will double up as a bank holiday social event with bar and barbecue. The action starts at 11am and entry is free.

Furness RU officials say anyone aged from eight ton 80 can get involved in what should be a fun occasion. Teams can be male, female or mixed but must include two under-17s players and team names should be emailed to juniors@firnessrugby.co.uk

Club members are trying to revive their once-thriving junior section, which has been for the five years due to a lack of available coaches and volunteers.

Concerted efforts have been made this summer to bring back the junior section, with an eye to competing against other Cumbrian teams next season.

Current and former Furness players have jumped on board to try and get the Crusaders up and running again, with many attending a Rugby Ready coaching course led by Garry Holmes, the RFU Community Coach for Barrow, Eden and South Lakes.
