WALNEY Cents stay top of North West Men’s League Division One following their 56-0 win over an under-strength Wigan St Pats A-team.

Stu Tippett led the way with a hat-trick of tries, with others coming from Ethan Furness, Jamie Ralph, Dave Nicholson (2), Adam Nicholson, Adam Ford and Luke Harrison. Dave Nicholson added five goals and Josh Holmes three.

Hindpool Tigers also triumphed, 24-22 at Rochdale Mayfield.

Nathan Sneesby was the hero, bagging a hat-trick of tries, with Stuart Travers and Connor McDermott also crossing. Grant Burns kicked two goals.

Ulverston were winners in the NW Men’s League Division Two. They defeated Leyland Warriors 44-16 at Dragley Beck.

Tries came from Kieron Potter (2), Connor Saunders, Marc Storey Scott Houston, James Porter and Steve O’Connor (2), with Saunders adding six goals.

Askam crashed to their second successive National Conference Division Two defeat on the road, going down 38-22 at Leigh East.

This was despite a gallant effort from the Villagers after Sam Dowsett and Mark Tyson both took a first half bath. Dowsett was sent off for punching while Tyson was dismissed for a dangerous tackle.

It was all square 10-10 at the break and the Villagers led 22-20 before three converted tries sealed their fate.

Tries came from Russ Bolton (2), Mike Wilson and Mark Tyson, with three Adam Jackson goals.

Barrow Island take on Walney in the first semi-final of the Barton Townley Cup at Craven Park tomorrow (6.30pm kick-off).
