WALNEY is at once both divided and united tomorrow as the island's State of Origin clash takes centre stage.

Central Drive hosts the annual North v South fixture, as being born on either side of Jubilee Bridge splits the teams.

Millom and Barrow Island are both on the road in the National Conference in the only other games to take place.

WALNEY NORTH v WALNEY SOUTH

(Central Drive, from 1pm)

WALNEY players come face-to-face as they battle for supremacy in the annual North v South clash.

The event is in memory of local musician Dean Zaccarini, who tragically lost his life in Manchester two years ago.

The North are looking to hold on to the trophy, having won it twice to the South's once in the competition's history. A fourth match ended in a draw.

Old-stagers will go into battle for the first time in the Masters game which precedes the main contest.

For the North, Paul Eacott, Ian Devlin, Sean Hearne and Darren Janes – among others – will face counterparts from the South in Stuart Dancer, Danny Richards and Alan Kendall.

Malta international, and the oldest player to take to the field, Paul Henderson, is also among the South ranks at the age of 48, in his 39th season with Cents, while local character Roy Stubbs is also pulling on a shirt.

Souths coach Dave Warne said :“It should be a little bit of tig and pass, but I think it could get a bit hot.”

The main game will see the Souths facing a strong North side coached by Matty Holmes, who lines up with Jamie Morrow – back after tying the knot – Adam Ford, Jack Rushton, Rob Harvey, James Finch and the ever-impressive Harry Gee.

Several of the North's young lads will also take part.

Pulling on a Cents shirt for the South for the first time in several years is former Barrow Raiders skipper and ex-Super League player Gary Broadbent.

He is joined by ex-Barrow men Brad Nicholls, Jamie Marshall and Mike Whitehead – the latter two of whom are expected to take some part in the Masters game.

Warne comes out of retirement after taking over as coach at first-team level alongside Dave Bell.

The day kicks off with an under-16s game at 1pm, the Masters game at 1.40pm, and the main game at 2.20pm.

All games will be 15 minutes each half. Several bands will then take to the stage to raise funds for the club.

The trophy will be decided over the three games.

STANLEY RANGERS v MILLOM

MILLOM go in search of their first National Conference Divison Three double of the season with a trip to Wakefield.

They face the division's bottom side, a team who conceded 80 points at Devonshire Road earlier in the season.

Brothers Adam and Ethan Kelly are unavailable for the Woollybacks, with half-back Jonathan Hodgson rated 50/50 with a knee injury.

Coach Tom Sibley said ahead of the long trip into Yorkshire: “We had a good win over Oldham St Annes last week and are having a good run, so we'll look to continue the good work this weekend.”

GATESHEAD STORM v BARROW ISLAND

ISLAND coach Joe Elliott is looking for his side to get back on track following last week's National Conference Division Three defeat at Woolston Rovers.

He said: “It was a disappointing result; it was a game we should have won, but we made too many poor decisions but we are still in second place.”

Jack Sutherland and Joe Mallinson return for the Island as they head to the North East.
