TAKE your pick. Millom and Ulverston offer the choice for fans tomorrow with both clubs eager to build on early-season promise.

Askam and Barrow Island are on their travels, heading south with last week’s excellent victories to give them confidence to climb up the table.

Ulverston v Seaton Rangers

(Dragley Beck 2.30pm)

ULVERSTON are expecting that normal service will be resumed following last weekend’s early finish against Ellenborough, when their game was abandoned with 12 minutes left.

On a positive note, Ulverston will have to be at their best against a Seaton side who are likely to be among the front-runners in the Cumbria League, having recently defeated Walney Central.

A hand injury keeps James Porter out of the side, and also missing because of work commitments are Connor Saunders and Dan Akrigg.

With Josh Rankin in line for a return, coach Phil Atkinson is likely to stick close to the side that led 18-12 when last week’s game was cut short.

The referee decided enough was enough and called a halt to proceedings after 68 minutes having been forced to take action following several bouts of ill-discipline by the visitors.

With just 12 minutes unplayed, it is likely that the Cumbria League committee will allow the result to stand, giving Ulverston revenge for their 23-14 defeat at Ellenborough a week earlier.

Millom v Drighlington

(Devonshire Road 2.30pm)

MILLOM have the chance to get their up-and-down season back on track when they entertain third-from-bottom Drighlington.

Their 40-0 defeat at East Leeds brought their upturn in results to a shuddering halt, but with newly- promoted Drig also on a downer after a 40-6 loss at Thornhill Trojans, the Woollybacks will be looking to make home advantage count.

Salford City Roosters v Askam

FRESH from their impressive win over Saddleworth Rangers, the Sandrats make a trip down the M6 to Eccles to take on bottom-of-the-table Salford City Roosters, who are without a win after five games in National Conference Division Two.

Coach Mike Wilson was more than happy with the 50-point win over Saddleworth, commenting: “We were slow to start, but once we had laid the foundations we were able to take control, especially in the closing stages.”

Despite that big win, Askam will be taking nothing for granted against the bottom club.

“We cannot underestimate them. They may not have won but they have had a couple of close results so we need to do what we did last weekend,” said Wilson. “They are a big side so we will have to man up in defence.”

Askam are likely to be without in-form duo Tom Hopkins (hamstring) and Stuart High (knee), but are hopeful that Mark Tyson, who missed the win over Saddleworth, is ready to return.

West Bowling v Barrow Island

ISLAND travel to Bradford on the back of a fine win over Stanningley but without the services of several key figures.

A combination of work commitments and injury robs them of Joe Spencely. Matt Sayle, Matty Parkinson, Lee Haney and Scott Hadwin, but their absence gives coach Joe Elliott the chance to blood some A-teamers.

“We may not be as strong in the pack this week, but those we bring in will have earned their chance,” he said.

Barrow Island have every reason to travel with confidence following their last-gasp win at the weekend, a victory snatched with a try from in-form Blain Marwood.

“West Bowling seem to score a lot of tries but they let in quite a few as well. Our defence has been very strong so far,” Elliott added. “We have to show resilience and keep on improving week by week.”

The win over Stanningley lifted Barrow Island into the top four of NCL Division Three, one place ahead of tomorrow’s opponents, who showed their scoring ability by running in seven tries in a 40-18 win over Waterhead Warriors.
