Dalton run riot to dispose of Askam

BARROW AND DISTRICT LEAGUE

Dalton A 58 Askam A 10

DALTON ran in 11 tries as they proved too strong for neighbours Askam at Kelland Park in the Barrow and District League, writes PADDY McATEER.

The hosts got off to a flying start when Harry Brown raced over for an unconverted try with only two minutes on the clock.

Matt Bolton and Adam Nicholson then followed their team-mate over the whitewash, with Jordan Woodburn landing one of the two conversions to make it 14-0.

A surging run brought Nicholson a second try, before swift handling from left to right ended with a try in the corner for Steve Tippett. Woodend was on target with both conversions to extend Dalton’s lead to 26-0.

Bolton then dummied his way over for the home side’s sixth try.

Askam refused to give up and, following a forceful run to the line by Gareth Richards, team-mate Stu Porter darted over from the play-the-ball to score a converted try.

Buoyed by their first score, the visitors crossed the whitewash again before-half time, with a Josh Steel try making it 30-10 at the break.

The second half was only two minutes old when Stu Tippett brushed off two defenders to go in from 30 yards. Woodend added the goal to extend Dalton’s lead to 36-10.

Askam stemmed the tide for a further 11 minutes before Mike Oldcorn and Bolton linked up to send Stu Tippett for another converted try.

Then, on the hour-mark, Brown bagged his second try of the game with a run from 30 yards to make it 46-10.

Askam looked to respond and Richards lost the ball in trying to go over the line.

From the resulting scrum, the ball was moved to Stu Tippett and the full-back ran 95 yards to complete his hat-trick.

The scoring was completed when Bolton became the second Dalton player to wrap up a hat-trick.

Woodend landed the last of his seven conversions to make a final score of 58-10.
