WALNEY Central can take another step on the road to the Cumbria League title tomorrow, with Millom gunning for further National Conference glory.

Barrow Island and Hindpool are also in action in South Cumbria, while Askam are the lone travellers.

WALNEY CENTRAL v GLASSON RANGERS

(Central Drive, 2.30pm)

SHAUN Morrow believes maximum points from the next three games will be enough for Cents to retain the Cumbria League trophy.

Following tomorrow’s clash with Glasson, Walney travel to title challengers Distington and then make the short trip to Rating Lane for the derby with Barrow Island.

The Cents coach is taking nothing for granted and is taking one game at at time.

Morrow said: “The next three games will see if we are to be champions or not. If we win all three, it could decide the title. All three games will be tough and it’s vital we get our form back in order tomorrow.

“The lads were down in the dumps following our Cumbria Cup final defeat at Workington against Maryport – we were all gutted.”

He added: “The game at Glasson earlier in the season was probably one of our best wins, but we know it will be a hard game as they are a strong side.”

Blaine Devlin and Jordan Staffieri return for Walney, but work rules out Liam Finch. Jack Pedley (shoulder) and Mike Elliott (honeymoon) are also out and Brad Nicholls faces a race against the clock after trapping a nerve in his neck. Morrow will take stock tonight before finalising his 17.

MILLOM v DEWSBURY CELTIC

(Devonshire Road, 2.30pm)

CHRIS Warren returns to action for National Conference Division Two leaders Millom after missing last week’s victory at Dudley Hill.

Jonathan Hodgson is unavailable, while Scott Mossop is rated 50/50 as work could prevent him playing.

Coach Tom Sibley said ahead of another important fixture for the title chasers: “We have to keep the roll going. We did that last week at Dudley Hill, although we never really got out of the blocks. We weren’t at our best, but it’s not bad when you don’t play that well and get a win.

“We were poor up front and never got going, but we are back home this week and looking for another win.

“Celtic were pushed all the way at home by Askam last week (when the West Yorkshire side won 20-14), but we are at near full-strength so we will be well prepared.”

Sibley will be keeping a watchful eye on the Featherstone Lions v Leigh East game, as it sees the sides placed second and third in opposition.

BARROW ISLAND v WATH BROW HORNETS A

(Rating Lane, 2.30pm)

JOE Spencely returns for the Island tomorrow, but they are still short up front for the clash with the Brow’s second string.

Richard Chatfield (neck), Matt Parkinson and John Doherty (both shoulder) are all ruled out as the Rating Lane side aim to get back on track after last week’s defeat against Distington.

Coach Neil Shaw said: “We are low in numbers once more in the pack and we will have lads doubling up following tonight’s A-team game.

“It was tough last week against Distington, especially when John Doherty went off – we only had one prop for the rest of the game and it was hard against dominant Distington forwards.

“But I can’t fault the effort of the lads, so we look to get a win over the Brow.

“It may be their A-team, but clubs in the west have strong A-teams, so we will be cautious.”

HINDPOOL TIGERS v THATTO HEATH

(Brisbane Park, 2.30pm)

HINDPOOL welcome the Heath to Brisbane Park in North West Men’s Division One knowing the league leaders will be a tough nut to crack.

The Tigers will field a similar team to that which travelled to Bamber Bridge, but missing out are Callum Lamont, Adam Martin and Kyle Coulthurst.

Brad Wrightwebb is set to return after injury, with several A-team players also due a call-up.

Captain Phil Cubiss said: “Thatto Heath are a top team, who are well-drilled and there is a reason that they are sitting at the top of the table. They did a number on us at their ground, but on that day we turned over too much possession and didn’t give ourselves a chance.

“We’ve improved since then and the lads are ready to get stuck in and try to make amends.

“In a season that has been very stop-start for us, it has been hard to find consistency and get some momentum going. If we can carry on where we left off against Bamber Bridge in our last game, we will definitely be in with a shot.”

OLDHAM ST ANNES v ASKAM

ASKAM look to complete the double over St Annes who are at the foot of National Conference Division Two, with just one win from 10.

The Villagers lost a close game 20-14 at Dewsbury Celtic last week.
