MILLOM’S hopes of survival in the National Conference second division hang in the balance after another setback as they went down 24-18 to second-placed Thornhill Trojans at Devonshire Road, writes Paddy McAteer.

It was a game the Woollybacks had to win to keep their chances of avoiding the drop for a second year running, but despite a gallant display they were six points adrift at the final whistle.

Man of the match Dane Kelly and Joe Wright crossed for first half tries with Lee Postlethwaite adding two conversions.

Millom battled bravely against the promotion favourites in the second period with Dom O’Brien touching down with Postlethwaite converting, but their efforts were not enough.

Askam lost on the road in a high-scoring game at Warrington losing out 48-30 to Crossfields who went in at the break with a 12-point advantage at 24-12. Askam were always chasing the game but fell short. Tries came from Tom Askew 2, Russ Bolton, Marc Dixon, and man of the match Tom Hopkins with the Tyson boys, Kris, four, and Mark, one, adding goals.

And there was no joy for Hindpool who could only muster a Paul Rickleton try at Folly Lane who ran out 50-4 winners.
