MILLOM picked up their first National Conference League Division Two win since April with a 20-6 defeat of Bradford Dudley Hill.

The Woollybacks started the game on the front foot on a beautiful day and were unlucky not to take the lead on nine minutes when Lee Postlethwaite just couldn’t ground the ball after a smart kick to the corner.

The deadlock was broken on the 20-minute mark when a kick into the in-goal area was not dealt with by the away side, and the ball managed to sit up nicely for Ross Brookes, who was in the right place at the right time to touch down. Postlethwaite was left with a tricky conversion and he couldn’t add the extras.

It took until the 35-minute mark for Millom to score again. This time the returning Chris Warren latched onto a superb kick from Ethan Kelly. The prop forward had seemed to lose control of the ball before poking out his toe at the final second to send up a little chip kick for Warren to catch and run on to and cross in the corner.

Dudley Hill hit back on 40 minutes when Callum Knight crossed after a kick bounced wickedly for the Millom defence and sat up perfectly. Simon Sewell converted and the half-time score stood at 8-6.

Millom started the second half brightly, with the home side applying pressure from the start. This pressure resulted in a sin bin which occurred on 51 minutes when the visitors were given a team warning for persistent offending which resulted in Sam Bradley being sent for a 10-minute break.

Millom made them pay when on 61 minutes Ethan Kelly crossed off a short ball by Jonathan Hodgson. Postlethwaite stepped up and converted which extended Millom’s lead to 14-6.

It took until the 73rd minute for Millom to score again, this time Chris Warren crossing in the corner after Noah Robinson had delivered the pass, Postlethwaite again converting to seal the win. Outstanding for Millom were Dane Kelly and Noah Robinson.
