HINDPOOL Tigers look to make cup progress against one of the most famous amateur clubs in the country tomorrow as Pilkington Recs A team head north.

Askam, Barrow Island and Walney all have home league games, while Millom head to Wigan St Judes.

Hindpool Tigers v Pilkington Recs A

North West Mens League Cup (Brisbane Park 2.30pm)

THE Tigers welcome one of the amateur game’s best known clubs for the first time to Brisbane Park, albeit their second string.

The St Helens side are an unknown quantity, but the Tigers have their danger men in sight.

Coach Phil Cubiss said ahead of the clash: “They are unknown having come up from Division Two, but we have information about their key players so we are aware of who to target.

“We look to have hit form at last following our win over St Pats last week (40-12).

“We performed really well and we aim to build upon that tomorrow and for the rest of the season.

“All our good work in pre-season paid off and it was good to see it all come together. Silly errors and unnecessary penalties are still with us, so we will have to reduce them.”

Cubiss himself is a doubt (broken nose) along with Tony Rickleton, while definitely out are the in-form Connor McDermott, along with Lee Boyd and Stu Travers.

Askam v East Leeds

(Fallowfield Park 2.30pm)

ASKAM have an abundance of players on the sidelines for the National Conference clash with the Leeds side.

Jamie Butler is ruled out with a rib injury and Mark Tyson could be out long-term (leg). Also missing are Gary Bolton (shoulder) and Dan Sayle (ribs) while Kris Tyson is rated 50-50 because of a troublesome hamstring injury.

Back in the fold are Marc Dixon and Jake Spedding as the Villagers look to put last week’s hefty 37-10 defeat at Waterhead behind them.

Coach Mike Wilson said: “Loads of injures but we will still be able to put out a decent side. We will have to improve massively from last week. I am looking for more pride and desire if we are to win. Last week we had our noses in front but let in some soft tries and just folded, I was disappointed with the end result.”

Barrow Island v Gateshead Storm

(Rating Lane 2.30pm)

ISLAND welcome Storm to Rating Lane for a first-ever clash between the sides.

A big loss for the Island is the absence of half-back Ian Irvine, but back to boost the forwards is Matt Parkinson.

Facing late fitness tests are Jack Sutherland and Matty Sayle otherwise it will be a similar squad to the one that lost 44-24 at Waterhead in the Conference.

Coach Joe Elliott said of a Storm side, who, like Island, have eight points so far: “Gateshead are going well in what is a tight league which is very tough and no easy games. We made too many errors at Waterhead and the lads know it, so we must complete our sets more than we did against Waterhead if we are to get a result. We will finalise the 17 tonight and with Irvine out it opens the door for one of the younger lads.”

Walney Central v Wath Brow A

(Central Drive 2.30pm)

WITH half backs Brad Nicholls, Jamie Morrow and Liam Finch all out injured, Cents have a problem in the number six and seven shirts, and though Dave Nicholson stepped up to the plate last week, work rules him out.

Matt Elliott – a former half back – has work commitments but brother Mike is set to return along with Connor Pearce and Jamie Ralph.

Coach Jan Elliott is looking ahead to what could be another big Cumbria League test for his side.

He said: “We know what a good side the Brow are. They beat us last month on their pitch. They are well drilled and though they have a lot of young kids, they play very good rugby. We will look to our young lads once more. Lads like Luke Harrison, Tyler Smith and Jake Helyer are just three who come in and do a good job.”

St Judes v Millom

PLAYER-COACH Tom Sibley could be on the sidelines for several weeks with a torn bicep as the Woollybacks look to get back on track in the Conference at Wigan.

Dom O’Brien is rated 50-50 (hamstring) while back in the fold are Jarty Robinson and Luke Brady.

Good news sees Lee Edmondson set for his second outing after missing all of last season.

He came through last week’s 32-16 home defeat at the hands of Oulton unscathed.

Sibley said: “We did okay last week after a slow start (20-0 down) pulling back to 20-16 at one stage. It was only late tries that killed us off. We are getting more of a settled side so I am looking for a big improvement in the coming weeks.

“It is good to see Lee Edmondson back on the pitch, he is such a good leader.”
