THERE is little time for Barrow Island to dwell on their Barton Townley Cup final defeat as they return to National Conference League Division Three action tomorrow.

Island head to Clock Face Miners who sit just below them in the standings on points difference aiming to swiftly bounce back from that loss.

Millom are on the road in Division Two when they head to leaders Oulton Raiders, but Hindpool Tigers are left kicking their heels again in the North West Men's League following another opponent calling their match off.

Hindpool were due to face Halton Simms Cross, but the scheduled visitors to Brisbane Park have players unavailable due to a stag party. It comes after Bamber Bridge did not travel last week.

CLOCK FACE MINERS V BARROW ISLAND

Barrow Island will be aiming to shake off any hangover from their heavy Barton Townley Cup final defeat to Askam by getting back on track at St Helens outfit Clock Face Miners.

It is Island’s third game in seven days and although they are struggling in the lower half of the table in their first season back in the NCL, joint-coach Joe Elliott has not given up on the chances of a play-off spot.

“We have settled down to the quicker pace of the league and I am sure that if we can make it into the play-offs we will be able to surprise a few teams,” Elliott said.

OULTON RAIDERS V MILLOM

Millom’s fight to avoid relegation does not get any easier. Having missed a chance to move five points clear of the drop-zone by surrendering a late to Saddleworth Rangers in the closing stages of last week’s game, they now face a daunting trip to league leaders Oulton Raiders.

Tries from Adam Kelly and Johnny Hodgson were not enough to secure the points against Rangers while Raiders – Division Two’s leading scorers – were rattling up 15 tries in an 80-point hammering of Salford City Roosters.

Millom are just three points ahead of the team occupying the second relegation spot – the Roosters already look doomed – and with Oulton chasing the title, they can expect to have easier tasks ahead.
