BARROW Island can go top of the Barrow and District league tonight as they take on bottom club Ulverston.

With Askam in Cumbria Shield action at Kells this weekend, two points for the Rating Lane side would see them clear at the summit.

It is a welcome return to action for Ulverston, who have not had a game for several weeks.

Dalton host Roose Pioneers knowing victory would move them up to third, above Walney – another side in Cumbria Shield action.

Roose Pioneers will be looking to get back to winning ways after they just lost out to cents in the Harry Warman Cup last week.

It was a great game at Central Drive, before a healthy crowd, as Walney triumphed 32-30.

The encounter was described by both clubs – who started level on the handicap – as the match of the season, and it was nip and tuck through out, with the scores level at 10-10 at half-time.

Pioneers were leading 30-26 with two minutes left on the clock, when Walney scored the winning try to break their hearts.

Stuart Tippett, Conner Pearce, Dave Nicholson, Jake Deveraux and Danny Johnson were the Cents try-scorers, with Matt McKee and George Nicholls landing a goal each.

Adam Batty led the way for Roose, with two tries and three goals, with Aidy White and Corne Els also crossing the whitewash.

In another exciting Harry Warman game, Dalton defeated Askam 24-18, having started 5-2 ahead on the handicap.

Dalton led 12-6 at half-time, with Tyler Batty and Joe Crarey touching down and Crarey converting both. Josh Steel scored for Askam and Brad Jackson converted.

The second half saw Askam start to take the game to Dalton, going in front with two Iestyn Humphries tries, both converted by Jackson.

But the Kelland Park side came back at the defending champions, and it came as no surprise when Lee Parks went over to score. Crarey converted for 18-18.

Askam were putting an attack together when Batty intercepted to go over for the winning try. Crarey again converted to put Dalton in the semi-finals.

Due to a bad run of injuries Hindpool were unable to raise a side against Barrow Island.

The draw for the Knockout Cup has been made, and is as follows: Dalton v Ulverston, Roose Pioneers v Walney, Barrow Island v Askam. Hindpool – bye.
