ASKAM are set to hand one of their talented youngsters a first-team bow against Salford tomorrow.

Barrow Island and Hindpool Tigers are the other teams at home on a full weekend of action.

ASKAM v SALFORD CITY ROOSTERS

(Fallowfield Park, 2.30pm)

KEIR Shepherd is in line for his Askam senior debut as the Roosters come to town.

The 17-year-old half-back – a member of the BARLA Great Britain Young Lions squad – has impressed in recent A-team games and could be thrust into action against a team propping up National Conference Division Two.

Also in contention following injury is Mark Tyson, while the Butler brothers, Jamie and Tom, return.

Liam Saunders and Adam Jackson are on the treatment table and unlikely to figure, with other absentees being Russ Bolton, Kristian Tyson, Ben Lewney and Brad Kavanagh.

Villagers coach Mike Wilson said: “Keir Shepherd is set for his debut after some impressive A-team games and is a very good prospect.

“This is one we should win as Salford are struggling at the bottom of the league. We need a win to climb the table, but they have some good players so we won't be over-confident.

“I am just looking for a solid performance all-round, with defence a priority.

“We know we are capable of running in trie,s so we have to work hard in defence. We had a big win at their ground and played some good rugby.”

BARROW ISLAND v EASTMOOR DRAGONS

(Rating Lane, 2.30pm)

THIRD-PLACED Eastmoor come to Rating Lane with eight wins from 11 outings in National Conference Division Three, while Island are looking to climb into the top half.

Island coach Joe Elliott has delayed naming his squad, and said: “We are expecting a tough tussle because they are riding high.

“I am awaiting calls from several lads before I can name the final 17, many are unavailable for different reasons.”

HINDPOOL TIGERS v HALTON FARNWORTH HORNETS

(Brisbane Park, 2.45pm)

HINDPOOL are in confident mood after Saturday's win against North West Men's Premier Division side Shevington Sharks in the league cup.

A relatively small side more than matched the bigger Sharks down the middle and scored some nice tries out wide.

They face Division One leaders Halton, who also disposed of Premier Division opposition last week, beating Thatto Heath, and who will be tough opponents.

The Tigers lost Josh Bayliss and Tony Rickelton last week with shoulder injuries, and both expected to be out for at least four weeks.

Also out is former Great Britain Under-23s tourist Nathan Sneesby, who is on holiday.

Coming into the side are Jamie Lynn, who has been their most improved forward of the last two seasons, and ex-Barrow Raiders player Chris Archer.

Connor McDermott will be looking to carry on his good form, and club spokesman Graham Shaw said: “Hopefully last week's win is a springboard to get our season back on track.

“We play favourites Orrell St James at home in the cup semi-finals, which will be a really tough ask, but we are at home so can't ask for more than that.

“The boys are looking forward to that and know they are playing for a shirt in that game.”

SEATON v ULVERSTON

JAMES Porter, James Armistead, Mark Wilkinson, Sam Shepherd, Howard Rowley, Adam Wilson, Brad Williamson, Ryan John, Liam Whinfield, Steve O'Connor, Josh Proctor, Jack Akred, Rowan Smedley, Ruiari McGoff, Josh Rankin, Joe Ward and Mike Reekes.

Not a bad line up for Ulverston – a team that could compete with any club in the Cumbria League.

However, all are unavailable for the trip to Seaton tomorrow.

Dragley Beck boss Phil Atkinson said. “Eight of those lads played against Wath Brow last week, while the others are still unavailable, so I haven't got a clue who will be on the bus.

“Hopefully we will get 17 lads to go. I am just waiting for calls.”

DISTINGTON v WALNEY CENTRAL

CENTS head up the West Cumbrian coast seeking a quick reversal of last weeks result, when they went down 29-22 to the same opponents at Central Drive.

Missing for the Cumbria League clash are Mike Elliott, Dave Nicholson and Jake Deveraux.

Walney coach Jan Elliott said: “It isn't going to be easy, but we can go on the back of a good display against them last week.

“I thought we played really well against the best team we have met this season.”

“There was no lack of commitment with one or two mistakes proving costly.”

LEIGH EAST v MILLOM

THE Woollybacks can go level-pegging with Leigh East in National Conference Division Two if they pull off a win in Lancashire tomorrow, but they will still be third-bottom even with a triumph, as the Leigh side have a superior points difference.
