THE bragging rights went to Askam, as two tries from Tom Hopkins helped them overcome Millom 44-22 in the National Conference League Division Two derby.

Millom started with some big hits from the middle and managed to get field position near the Askam line, where Jonathan Hodgson hit Joseph Wright with a short ball for him to cross, with Lee Postlethwaite converting.

However, the lead did not last long, as four minutes later, Kristian Tyson found a gap from 15 metres out.

Askam scored again on 14 minutes as Tom Askew crossed on the back of a passing move and Adam Jackson added the extras.

It was something of a defensive tussle until Millom man-of-the-match Adam Kelly benefited from a quick play-the-ball which saw him scoot over from close range. Postlethwaite converted and Millom were back in front.

Again, the lead did not last, and Askam were back in front when Hopkins burst over from close range. Jackson converted to put them 16-12 up at half-time.

The Villagers started the quicker after the restart, and on 43 minutes their man-of-the-match Hopkins scored his second by finding his way over the line. Jackson again converted.

They were in again three minutes later when Jack Cairns produced a piece of magic to cross in the corner. Jackson again converted.

It was not long until they crossed once more, as a grubber kick near the line bounced up and Tom Wilkinson found himself in the right place at the right time to take advantage and cross near the sticks.

Millom refused to give up and started to build pressure, with Adam Jackson sin-binned was repeated offending.

The Woollybacks could not take advantage immediately, and instead Tom Butler broke up the right and managed to put the ball down, with Cairns converting this time.

Millom continued to battle and were rewarded when Ross Brookes exploded through a gap from close range to score.

Askam responded instantly as Rory Marshall barged his way over, but Millom had the final say when Dominic O’Brien latched on to a chip over the top to cross in the corner.

Division Three action saw Barrow Island share the spoils with Dewsbury Celtic after drawing 10-10 in Yorkshire.

Dan Wright gave Island a 4-0 lead, with the home side going 10-4 up before Scott Hadwin touched down for James Hawden to level with the conversion.

Walney Central were held to a 28-all draw at in-form Ellenborough in the Cumbria League.

Matty Elliott was the man in form for Cents, claiming a hat-trick of tries, with others coming from Jordan Staffieri and Stu Tippett. James Finch added four goals.
