IT is a big day at Fallowfield Park tomorrow as Askam look to secure a place in the National Conference Division Two play-offs.

Barrow Island are also at home as they host Stanningley, while Millom head to Salford City Roosters.

Askam v Oulton

Fallowfield Park (2.30pm)

BOTH teams go into this encounter with a target of one point each, which for the Villagers will secure a play-off place while for the Wakefield side it will clinch the National Conference second division title.

Askam’s hopes took a jolt last weekend following their 32-12 defeat at Thornhill while Oulton were 50-12 winners over Crossfields.

However, with a possible four points on offer with two games left, it is in the hands of the home side to secure that point in front of what should be a big crowd at Fallowfield Park.

Coach Mike Wilson is anticipating a tough 80 minutes, describing Oulton as an aggressive and big physical outfit.

He added: “We will have to match them up front as they are difficult to handle in the middle of the park.

“We can’t afford any errors or we will be punished. We are capable of scoring tries from any part of the field and though our defence can be strong, it does let us down at crucial times. We must be fully focused for the entire 80 minutes and the pivot role is absolutely vital.

“Stu High, who has been out for a while injured, will take on this task. He has had a couple of A-team games recently and is looking good.”

Mark and Kris Tyson, along with Joe Satterthwaite, are on holiday, while Adam Jackson is still out injured. Keir Shepherd has a big game on Sunday when he makes his international debut for the English Community Lions in Wales. All at Fallowfield Park send their best wishes to the talented half-back.

Into the squad after missing the trip to Thornhill are Liam Saunders, Jake Spedding, Brad Kavanagh, Dale Lampton and Jack Cairns. But with four of his important back division missing, Wilson will have to do a little shuffling.

l The clubhouse will be staging a race night tomorrow to raise funds for Shepherd’s trip to Wales, and for Mike Wilson and Tom Butler, who are off to Dubai in November to play in the Rugby Union 10s games for the over -35s. Doors open at 7pm and the first race starts at 8pm.

Barrow Island v Dewsbury Celtic

Rating Lane (2.30pm)

ISLAND will field most of the squad that ran Stanningley close last week and there is a hope that Jack Sutherland could have a run-out after several weeks out injured.

Joe Spencely is also unavailable due to university duties with Sam Jones and Scott Hadwin also sidelined, but Jake Stockdale could return following a shoulder injury, along with Matt Parkinson.

Coach Joe Elliott said: “It is a game we should win, we ran Stanningley close last week with a great performance and we are now playing good rugby.”

Salford City Roosters v Millom

THE Woollybacks round off a poor season with a trip to Eccles where they take on the City Roosters and they should round off the campaign with a victory.

The Roosters are wooden spoonists, with just one win from 21 outings, while Millom are just above them, with four wins from the same number of games.

The Woollybacks have fallen from grace over the last two seasons, dropping into Division One and then Division Two in successive years.

However, they aim to go out with a win after two very good performances in their last two games, running promotion candidates St Judes and Thornhill close.

Coach Tom Sibley said: “We are playing for pride. We have had a tough season and we are not under pressure to win.”

Ross Brookes and Lee Postlethwaite are unavailable, while Adam Kelly is 50-50 with a shoulder problem. Back in the frame are Chris Warren and Paul Carter.

l Hindpool’s scheduled final league game of the season with Halton Simms Cross is off after the Widnes side confirmed earlier in the week they would not travel. The Tigers are in the play-offs next weekend.
