KRISTIAN Holmes ran in five tries as Askam found Barrow And District League champions Roose Pioneers in brilliant form.

Right-centre Holmes had to much power and pace for the Villagers, helping his side secure a 48-12 win, although Askam put in a creditable first half, being only 18-12 down at half time.

Jack Torkington put Roose Pioneers ahead after five mins after covering 70yards and Adam Batty added another try which he converted to make it 10-0.

Askam hit back when Cameron Cooper made good yards and the ball was moved out wide to Dillon Burkett, who sold a great dummy to go over and score. Stuart High converted to make it 10-6.

From the restart, Roose put pressure on the Askam line and Holmes had two tries in quick succession to put Pioneers 18-6 ahead.

As half time approached, Askam came back into the game and, after some neat forward play, prop Gareth Richards took the ball at pace 10 yards out to go crashing over to score. High converted to make it 18-12.

The second half started with the Pioneers attacking the Villagers' line, followed by Batty increasing Roose's lead with a try which he converted to make it 24-12.

Joe Cargain, the Pioneers prop, was next to score when he took the ball 15 yards out to power his way over and Batty converted.

From here on in, Holmes stole the show with three tries all converted by Batty to give Pioneers a emphatic victory.

Hindpool Tigers and Barrow Island both failed to raise sides out against Dalton and Millom.
