A BLANK weekend beckons for the Barrow and District League, as fixtures have been put on hold due to the Kendal Calling festival.

Those Roose Pioneers making the trip there for the weekend do so in the knowledge their side are almost certain to be crowned champions.

A 38-6 win over fourth-placed Barrow Island means they are undefeated so far, drawing one game against third-placed Askam among their many victories.

Try-scorers for Roose against Barrow Island were Mike Backhouse, Craig Deakin, Christian Holmes, Jack Torkington, Shaun Mason, Dal White and Adam Batty, with Glenn Phillips kicking five goals.

For the Island, Matt Jefferson scored the try and Matt Parkinson added the conversion.

Second-in-the-league Dalton also had a convincing victory over Millom, 40-10.

Always in command, Dalton went in at half-time leading 20-10 and did not concede another point.

The Crarey brothers had a big say in the result, scoring 22 points between them. Jack went in for two tries and kicked one goal, with Joe scoring one try and kicking four goals.

Tom Sharp, Tyler Batty, Evan Jones, Harry Gordon and Eddie Tyson were the other Dalton try-scorers.

For Millom, Ethan Bickerdike and Dave Kelly crossed the whitewash, and Macauley Bowman added a conversion.

At the lower end of the table, sixth-placed Walney Central had a convincing win over seventh-placed Hindpool Tigers, 32-10.

Adam Ford (2), Liam Wright, Jamie Marshall and Elliott Bibby were the Walney try-scorers, with Josh Holmes (3) and Harry Gee kicking the goals.

Hindpool's Ryan Smith and Connor Goodings crossed the whitewash, and Goodings landed one goal.

Once again, Ulverston failed to put a side out, handing Askam the points

While there is no action this weekend, there is much to celebrate for the Barrow and District League.

Over the years, the competition has always produced talent through the age groups, but no more so than of late.

This season in the under-19s, Elliott Campbell and Charlie Emslie have represented Scotland, and Jake Stockdale, Tyler Lancaster and Jake Carter have been called into the England Colleges squad to ace the Australian Schoolboys later in the year.
