ELLIOT Campbell and Charlie Emslie were both on the scoresheet as Scotland defeated Ireland 30-18 in their opening match of the European Under-19s Championship.

Barrow Island prop Campbell got the try which put Scotland in front after nine minutes, scoring under the posts to give Alex Williams a simple conversion.

The Bravehearts led 16-0 at half-time, but Ireland mounted a fightback after the break and went 18-16 in front before Millom back-rower Emslie restored his team's advantage with a converted try.

The Scots pushed on from there to take victory and now face France in the semi-finals, following their 70-0 victory over Italy in their match.

Campbell and Emslie's Furness Raiders team-mate Cameron Hetherington helped England get off to a winning start in the tournament as well as they defeated host nation Serbia 64-0.

Walney Central front row Hetherington got one of England's 11 tries in the match, with the team now facing Wales in the other semi-final, after they inflicted a 70-0 defeat on Ukraine.
