ULVERSTON and Walney Central have promotion on their minds in the North West Men’s League after key wins at the weekend.

Ulverston’s 20-12 victory at Bury Broncos took them within a point of Division Two leaders Manchester Rangers – another recent victim – with three games in hand.

Phil Atkinson’s side had to come back from 8-6 down at the break, but got home with tries from Marc Dixon, Rowan Smedley, Connor Saunders and Liam Whitfield. Saunders kicked two goals.

Walney lead Division One following their 34-14 win at Wigan St Patricks A.

Tries from Ethan Furness, Adam Ford, Matty Holmes (2), Dave Nicholson and Jordan Staffieri eased them to victory after the sides were locked at 8-8 at half-time.

Dave Nicholson, Staffieri (3) and man-of-the-match Adam Nicholson added the goals.

In National Conference Division Two, Askam’s chances of promotion are fading following their 40-16 defeat by Drighlington in Yorkshire. Tom Hopkins was their man-of-the-match.

In the Barrow and District League, Millom and Dalton will contest the final of the Harry Warman Trophy – the league’s handicap competition.

Millom’s 36-32 win over Askam (44-37 on handicap) earned them their final place against Dalton, who defeated Hindpool Tigers 62-32 (64-47 on handicap).
