Rampant visitors notch half century against Woollybacks

ONLY three fixtures took place on Saturday, and for Millom it was not a good day at the office in the National Conference first division, writes PADDY McATEER.

The Woollybacks suffered a heavy home defeat, losing 56-6 against West Cumbrian rivals Egremont.

Millom were always chasing the game with the visitors leading 28-6 at half-time, and with Anthony Green sent off just before the break, the second half proved to be an uphill task for Millom failing to add to their tally while a rampant Egremont side added a further 28 points.

Millom’s lone try-scorer was Midge Dixon with Paul Evans adding the conversion.

In the derby game in Division Three of the North West Men’s League, Marc Dixon ran in five tries as Ulverston defeated Hindpool 50-10 at Dragley Beck.

The visitors were still in contention at 18-10 down at the break, but Ulverston stepped up a further gear to add a further 32 points without reply.

Other tries for the Dragley Beck side came from Steve O'Connor (2), Scott Houston and Mark Wilkinson, with seven goals from ‘Dinger’ Bell.

For Hindpool, Dwyane Coulthurst and Paul Rickleton crossed for tries, with Grant Burns adding one conversion.

Roose Pioneers lost 24-16 on the road at Rochdale Cobras in Division One. Pioneers’ scorers were Joel Williams (2) and Ross Walker, plus two goals.

Disappointingly Widnes St Maries Vikings failed to raise enough players for their trip to Barrow Island in the Premier Division.

Next weekend’s fixtures. National Conference Division One. Hunslet Warriors v Millom.

Division Two: Eastmoor v Askam.

North West Men’s League Premier Division: Ashton Bears v Barrow Island. Division One: Folly Lane v Walney Cents. Division Three: Ulverston v Cadishead.
