PATIENCE is a virtue Paul Crarey wants his Barrow Raiders players to embrace for the final five Betfred Championship Shield Super Eights games.

Having reviewed the video of the 38-0 defeat at Leigh Centurions two weeks ago, the Raiders head coach felt it was the biggest area for improvement for his side.

And that has been the focus at training ahead of the visit of Batley Bulldogs this Sunday.

“We’ve just got to be a little more patient,” said Crarey. “The first eight or nine minutes against Leigh, we were patient, but we didn’t pull the trigger on certain plays which would have got tries when we looked at it on video.

“We took the wrong options and we let in some real soft tries when we didn’t want to kick the ball to them and keep the ball in play on the back end of sets because they’re the best team on transition in the league, and we did that.”

The patient approach was one which served Barrow well earlier in the season, including when they edged out Batley 20-18 at Craven Park in May.

“If we get it right, we can compete with anyone which we did earlier on in the season,” said Crarey.

“But it’s little things we need to tidy up and we need improve our support and decision-making, and just be a little more patient with the ball rather than try to score off every set and push passes, which is causing us low completion rates.”
