That Friday feeling at Barrow League prize night
Last updated at 13:45, Thursday, 17 May 2012
THERE were mixed fortunes for the divisional champions when they took on the rest of the league at snooker, billiards, darts and don, at the annual end-of-season presentation night.
Snooker league winners Kill-One were dominant, winning all three games at Cemetery Cottages Club.
Martin McDonald produced breaks of 18, 23 and 34, and Mike Smith compiled breaks of 28 and 21, with Steve Ley completing a 3-0 win. The champions gave Dave Newby, Adam Cook and Steve Fretwell no chance to shine.
Billiards champions Kill-One suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at the hands of two Vickerstown CC players.
Steve Scott, with 17 and 19 breaks, took the spoils over individual winner Allan Edmondson, while Gareth Willis ran out with a 21 break to beat Kill-One captain Peter Johnson.
Derek Hurley stood firm against Geoff Turner to take a tight game 100-82, and a point for the league winners.
Darts league winners St Pat’s took a hammering against the select team.
Ian Goodwin, 100-140, took the top man’s game against St Pat’s captain Ian Large, 100-125.
Individual winner Kev Culley, 100-100, beat Dave Rafferty, who had three tons in his game. Gareth Willis, 100, completed a personal double at billiards and darts in a tight game against John Clamp. Individual runner-up Stuart Culbert, 140, got the better of Joe O’Leary, 100, and jubilant captain Wayne Elliott, 100-121, just had the edge over Andy Charnley, 100.
Dave Macmillan took his game against Brian Linklater. Chris Kirkby, 100, saved grace for the league winners in a tight game against Neil Green.
In the welsh don, league winners Barrow Football Supporters Club also lost.
The partnerships of Brian Sharp/Ken Johnson, Alan Halse/Mala McCoy, Alan Edwards/Tony Macmillan and Bob Taylor/John Rawlinson proved to be too strong, winning all four games with ease, against Stuart Culbert/Steve Martin, Jim Wilson/lan Walsh, Denis Plant, league don aggregate winner/Kev Culley and Alan Bonner/Tony Woodward.
The Friday League would like to thank sponsor Steve Wilcock of Lakeland Leisure who presented the trophies and prizes and the Cemetery Cottages Club for hosting the event and providing an excellent buffet.
