UP-AND-COMING gymnasts got the chance to work with beam champion Danusia Francis during a Dance and Beam Confidence workshop at Furness Gymnastics Club.

Danusia is a British-born artistic gymnast who has competed at the British, European and World Championships, and hopes to represent Jamaica at the 2020 Olympics, so her visit was a coup for the Barrow club.

The dance workshop saw London-based Danusia pass on top tips on how to express music in dance, and the 45 gymnasts in attendance also learnt a new dance.

The beam confidence workshops saw gymnasts learn how to overcome their fears and how to perform more confidently during competition.

Furness Gymnastics Club coach Lindsey Usher said: “We were extremely honoured to welcome such an accomplished gymnast to our club.

“The gymnasts who attended absolutely loved the workshop and came away inspired.

“Danusia was brilliant with our gymnasts and made them feel at ease.

“She passed on some excellent tips to help the girls feel more confident on beam and helped them work on their presentation.”
