POLICE were in scintillating form in Sharples Lettings Furness and District Bowling League Division One.

Only a Paul Lewis success prevented them from whitewashing hosts Roose Community.

The Police had five single-figure wins, the best of whom were Stewart Turnbull, 21-5, Stuart Price, 21-6, and Joe Cotton, 21-8.

Arthur Foster was best as leaders Askam’s tremendous start to the season continued at Salthouse, from where the villagers returned home as 11-4 victors.

In a tight match at Hawcoat Park, Lindal emerged with an 8-7 triumph by virtue of a 15-chalk aggregate advantage, mainly due to a fine 21-9 Simon Perry performance.

Despite a brilliant 21-1 win from Dave Pedley and taking seven of the 12 game, Co-op SC lost the aggregate by two chalks and the match 8-7 to Red River at Dane Avenue.

Jordan Park, 21-3, and Stuart Aspinall, 21-8, inflicted the damage for River.

Danny Edmonds, 21-4, and Steve Fullard, 21-8, sent King Alfred on their way to a 11-4 win at near-neighbours Walney Park. Colin White, 21-8, replied well for the losers.

Dalton CC maintained their unbeaten start, beating King Alfred A 10-5 on Walney. Chris Johnson had a superb 21-1 top-man display, and received good support from Martin Steele, 21-3, and Geoff May, 21-4. John Reilly had a welcome 21-6 scoreline for the Alfred.

With the help of a 21-7 Chris D’Leny victory, Glaxo SC increased their lead at the top of Division Two to three points over Hawcoat Park A, returning from Dalton CC A 10-5 to the good.

After drawing the games at West Shore, Hawcoat A claimed three aggregate points by just six chalks.

Roose Community A added to their good start with a solid 10-5 success at Police A. Old timers Ron Nicholson, 21-1, and Ken Delves, 21-9, were to the fore, with Ron Wilson, 21-6, and Alan Salisbury best for the Bobbies.

Noel McAlley, 21-5, Roy Bainbridge and Andy Waring, both 21-6, helped Kirkby A to the division’s biggest win – 13-1 at home to Co-op SC A. Roger Wood prevented the clean sweep.

David Thompson triumphed 21-3 as King Alfred B shared the games at North Scale and left the Villagers bottom of the division, by producing a six-chalk aggregate victory. Les Johnson posted a 21-8 reply.

Hawcoat Park B, with George McFarlane winning 21-8, had a big 11-3 margin against Barrow Island.

Askam A moved up the table following a 8-6 success over fellow strugglers Salthouse A. Skipper Bill Sears’ 21-4 scoreline claimed the aggregate for his side by two chalks, despite another fine 21-8 single-figure win from merit leader Steven Howarth.

A 12-3 win by Walney Park A at Glaxo SC A increased their lead at the top to nine points, with Terry Ducie, 21-9, on form.

Keith Nixon, 21-8, and Adam Hudson, 21-9, helped West Mount A hammer West Mount 11-3.

Co-op SC B are still unbeaten after overcoming Hawcoat Park C 9-5, with Alec Thompson, 21-3, Sam Naylor, 21-6, and Allan Turner, 21-7, their best. Mike Kittley, 21-4, replied.

Salthouse B came away from the island 10-5 winners at Walney Park B. Greg Windsor, 21-1, Jason Truman, 21-7, and Mark Singleton, 21-9, were their best, with Neil McMillan having a brilliant 21-4 reply.

Harry Curwen, 21-5, and John Brady, 21-9, put Red River A on course for a 9-5 success over Kirkby, who had Colin Robinson, 21-4, Don Marshall, 21-7, and Stuart Goodwin, 21-9, on form.

Wins of 21-7 from Tommy Elliott and 21-9 from Jamie Humphrey helped Barrow Island A beat West Shore A 10-4.
