KIRKBY ended Hawcoat Park's long unbeaten start to the season in the Deltawaite Furness Senior Citizens’ League.

Park had won their opening 14 Division One matches, but they were beaten 6-5 at the Community Centre.

Having tied on chalks at 148 each, the result went in favour of the villagers, with them having won five of the eight games. With Kirkby taking the top four games, Roger Tyson’s win in the bottom tilted the balance.

However, Hawcoat quickly got back on track when winning 9-2 at second-placed Co-op. Conditions proved extremely difficult following the dry spell and the baked surface saw a number of well-intended woods finish in the gutter.

In the points were the two Bobs - Parkinson and Stewart - for the leaders with Dave Irvine and Kenny Judge the pick for the Co-op. At the other end of the table West Mount remain rooted in the relegation places 13 points from safety following their 10-0 drubbing at Lindal.

Bottom side Walney Park A were restricted to a single win when playing host to neighbours King Alfred. The whitewash was prevented as a result of Jeff Stubbs' 21-9 win.

Askam’s recent run of form continued with a 7-3 home win against Roose Community who were unable to field a full side. The villagers had three single-figure winners in Derek Porter, Norman Milburn and Stuart Currie.

Hawcoat Park A eased away from the relegation area with a 7-3 win over Ulverston Cons, the win seeing them move above their opponents.

Barrow Island were too strong for visitors Kirkby restricting the villagers to a single win to close out the game at 9-1.

Dalton Cricket’s recent drop in form has seen them drop to third bottom, but with a cushion of 12 points they should have breathing space despite losing 8-2 at Salthouse.

The closest game of the day took place at Biggar Bank where West Shore and Walney Park finished level on games at four each and level on chalks.

With the away side taking the extra aggregate point Walney Park won 6-5.

In Division Two Co-op S C A go top following their 10-1 win at Hawcoat Park. With a game in hand and a seven-point lead they would appear to be the team to beat.

Despite losing 8-2 at Glaxo SK, Barrow Island A they hold a five-point lead over Glaxo who moved into third place off the back of the result.

Previously third-placed North Scale could only manage one win at King Alfred A, resulting a drop to fourth place. Salthouse A found Dalton CC A in good form as they suffered a shut-out at Ulverston Road.

Fellow strugglers Walney Park B lost 9-1 at West Mount A with their point coming from their top man Ged Bartlett.

The remaining saw Roose A and Askam A share the games four each with villagers claiming a 7-4 win courtesy of taking the aggregate points.
