TABLES were turned in Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ Bowling League Division One, as four of the five bottom clubs entered the winner’s circle.

While the results proved a boost for three team, consolidating their efforts to stay in the division, it was not the case for the bottom two, West Mount and Walney Park A.

Despite both having excellent results, they find themselves still adrift.

Walney Park A beat Kirkby 7-3, with skipper Jim Wood among their victors.

West Mount had an 8-2 triumph against high-fliers King Alfred at the Mount. Leading winners were Colin Taylor, 21-9, Ken Robinson and Johnny Cross.

Askam had the best result, coming out on top 9-1 at home to Barrow Island, for whom Harry Dagger staved off the whitewash.

Hawcoat Park A completed the quartet, with an 8-2 result against visiting Roose. They built on the foundations of single-figure from J Bawden, 21-9, and Dave Hodgson, 21-5.

It was a club double for Hawcoat, with the first team returning from Salthouse 7-4 to the good, having shared the games but claimed the aggregate. Salthouse will look on the game with some disappointment, with two of their losses by 21-20 margins.

Second-placed Co-op lost 7-3 at West Shore, where home bowlers Martin Lavender, 21-4, and Brian Beard, 21-8, impressed.

In the remaining games, there were wins for Dalton CC and Lindal.

At Church Walk, the Cons and Dalton CC shared the games four apiece; where it was down to a single chalk separating the two sides in a 7-4 win for the Cricket Club.

At Pennington Lane, Walney Park suffered a 7-3 loss to hosts Lindal, for whom Kevin Rooney and Brian Andrews had single-figure successes.

In Division Two, leaders Co-op SC A suffered a heavy 9-2 defeat at home to Askam. Despite the loss, they still hold a commanding lead over their closet rivals.

Askam were well served by Bill Sears, Ronnie Kitchin and Bill Askew, while Co-op’s points came from Gerry McDonald and John Proudfoot.

Second and third-placed Barrow Island A and Glaxo SK won their respective games against West Shore A and North Scale.

The Old Barrow triumphed 7-3, with single-figure wins of 21-9 from Tommy Elliott and Dave Dale.

Glaxo’s success came with an 8-2 home scoreline, Johns Davidson and Whiteway both winning 21-9.

Dalton CC A were too strong for West Mount A, while there were home victories for Roose, King Alfred A and Hawcoat Park B.
