Father and son star for Co-op in Furness Bowling League

Rob Jones, 21-7 for River, was bettered by Ian Hall, winning 21-2. The Dane Avenue side could still have a big factor to play in the direction of the title, as they still have the top-three sides to play at home.

Danny Edmonds, 21-8, starred for King Alfred as they beat neighbours Walney Park 12-2 to lead the division by 10 points from Police, who dropped three games at home to bottom side Roose Community.

Stewart Turnbull, 21-5, was best for the hosts, with Paul Lewis having a fine display for Roose.

Tony Kneale’s 21-9 was to no avail as Hawcoat Park went down 11-3 at Lindal, who had brilliant successes from Paul Rooney, 21-2, and Daniel Smith, 21-6.

That result keeps Lindal a point behind Police, but having played a game more.

Kenny Knowles, 21-9, helped Askam beat Salthouse 9-5, while in the relegation battle, Dalton CC made it two consecutive wins, defeating King Alfred A 8-6. The Cricketers won 7-5 on games, but had to be content with a share of the aggregate.

In Division Three, Kirkby dented the title hopes of Red River A by beating them 12-2 at the Community Centre. Paul Ryan put out a great performance at top man, triumphing 21-9 for the club side.

But despite Malcolm Cleasby winning 21-6 and Dave Turnough 21-9, the plaudits must once again go to 11-year-old Jack Park, who edged home 21-20 against Dave Pullin for his eighth-successive victory.

Leaders West Mount A beat their first team 10-5, with Keith Hudson returning a 21-5, Alan Hudson 21-7 and merit leader Ian Littlewood 21-9.

West Mount had beaten West Shore A 10-5 earlier in the week.

John Howard, 21-3, Mike Davey and Ron Repton, both 21-7, helped steer Walney Park A to a 9-5 scoreline against Glaxo SC A.

Despite receiving a walkover and Paul Wapplington winning 21-8, Hawcoat Park C lost 10-5 against Co-op SC B, who won the aggregate by seven chalks, thanks to scores of 21-6 from Peter Jeffries and 21-7 from Allan Turner.

Greg Windsor, 21-3, Ray Smith, 21-5, Darren Mountford, 21-8, and Martin Carpenter, 21-9, eased Salthouse B to a 10-4 success over Walney Park B, who had Paul Gauntlett, 21-9, in fine form.

West Shore A had their fifth win of the season at the expense of Barrow Island A, triumphing 9-5. Dave Hunt won 21-7 for the club men, with Barry Crawford carding a 21-9 reply.

Only one point separates Glaxo SC and Hawcoat Park A at the summit of Division Two. The Ulverston side whitewashed Dalton CC A before their rivals dropped just one game to West Shore.

Chris D’Leny and Harry Tomsett won 21-7 and Geoff Hill 21-8 for the leaders, while George Dodd, 21-6, and 21-9 scores from David Hird and Bill McLaughlin were best against the Shore, whose only success came from Brian Chelton.

Co-op SC A moved above Kirkby A after beating them 10-4, while despite Colin Haworth winning 21-8, Askam A went down 9-5 at Salthouse A.

The games were shared between King Alfred B and North Scale, but despite Keith Hurley winning 21-9, it was the Alfred who took the aggregate points and the match 8-6.

Norman Whitehouse won 21-7 as Roose Community A beat Police A 9-5, with Nigel Burns replying 21-8.

Hawcoat Park B won seven of the 12 games, but lost the aggregate by seven chalks to end up with a 7-7 draw at Barrow Island.
