BARROW Friday League billiards king Peter Johnson has died.

The long-standing member of the league passed away on Saturday in Furness General Hospital, aged 72.

Peter played billiards for the super-successful Abbey Road Cons teams, starting in the early 1970s. More recently, he captained the British Legion Club side.

In total, with the two sides, he helped win the billiards league and the play-offs for the past 17 years consecutively.

Last year, he also teamed up with Kevin Quinn and Allan Edmondson to land the George Troth Memorial Billiards Trophy, for three-man teams, one final time.

A statement from the Friday League said: “The Friday League are saddened at the loss of one of their long-standing members, Peter Johnson.

“He was a true gentleman, who will be sorely missed by all his friends and all who knew him.

“The Friday League would like to send their sincere condolences to Peter’s family: his wife Ann, son Stephen and daughter Debbie.”
