ADAM Roynon has tipped fellow South Cumbrian speedway rider Rob Shuttleworth to impress alongside him at Workington Comets.

The duo have both signed contracts for the 2017 Championship season, with Roynon have returned to the Derwent Park club last year and Shuttleworth joining for the first time.

Dalton's Roynon and Askam's Shuttleworth are two of three Cumbrians in the Comets line-up, with star man Craig Cook – of Cleator – named as their number one rider.

Roynon feels Shuttleworth – whose 2.00 average going into the season is seen a boon by Workington – can shine for his new team, and said: “I was team coach when he was riding for Coventry. I know Shutty well. I know he'll definitely do good things in the Championship. It's a good move to bring him in, he will be a key signing for us.

“We've got three Cumbrians in the team up at Workington, which I don't think they've ever had before.”

Having signed on the dotted line for Workington, Roynon is also confident he will find a ride in the top-flight Premiership – formerly the Elite League before recent name changes across the divisions – for 2017.

He has nowhere sorted yet, but believes he can pick up a team, and said: “I will be looking for a ride in the Premiership next year. With the way that the averages are for next year, even if I don't have somewhere when the season starts, I will have something within a couple of months. I'm not too worried about starting the season in it, because I know I will end up in it.”
