ULVERSTON golfers Mary Simpson and Linda Dixon utilised their knowledge of the scenic Bardsea course to triumph in the Ladies Charity Open.

Simpson and Dixon’s impressive score of 45 points off a 90 per cent handicap saw the home duo keep the threat of Pauline Sill and Rowena Lee at bay.

Sill and Bay finished second on 41 points, with Judith Haile and Liz Chorlton, also from Ulverston, third with 39 points.

A total of 64 ladies turned out to play the four-ball better ball competition in good weather conditions.

Proceeds of the Ladies Charity Open will be passed on to NSPCC Furness Fundraisers, one of Lady Captain, Mavis Hall’s chosen charities for the year.

Joint-winner Mary Simpson thanked the bar and catering staff, green staff, and organisers of the competition, while the Lady Captain thanked everyone for their support, and extended an invitation for their return to play in next year’s competition.
