SPORTING all-rounder Dean Kelly is ready to take the world by storm once again.

The 40-year-old enjoyed fantastic success in National and World Dwarf Games from 2009 to 2013, before taking a break from competition.

Kelly’s big breakthrough came in 2009, when he bagged four golds for Great Britain in the World Dwarf Games in Belfast.

His seven-medal haul in Northern Ireland saw him victorious in the 100m, 200m, relay and football, and take silvers in powerlifting, javelin and discus.

That achievement saw him crowned Barrow Borough Sports Council’s Sportsperson of the Year, as well as winning the Performance Award for People with a Disability and the Be Inspired Award at the Cumbria Sports Awards.

Kelly was back in medal-winning form in the World Dwarf Games in Michigan, USA, in 2013, when he claimed silver after an excellent performance in the 100m. Now the Oldham-born adopted Barrovian is ready to try and scoop more medals in domestic and international events.

Kelly will be competing in the National Games in Walsall next May and the World Games in Canada three months later.

He will be trying his luck in events in which he has enjoyed considerable success in the past – power-lifting, football, 60m and 100m sprints and the 4x100m relay.

Kelly says the World Games in Ontario next August will be his swansong at that level, although he intends to carry on competing at domestic level for a few more years.

He is looking for new sponsors to help with his costs and anyone interested can get in touch with him by email at deankelly70@yahoo.co.uk

“I would like to thank all the people who have sponsored me over the years,” he said.
