DAVE McDonald and Stuart Culbert formed a fine partnership to win the Barrow Football Supporters Club billiard table bowls blind pairs.

The duo came out on top from a field of random duos at the Soccer Bar.

McDonald and Culbert were drawn against Brian Sadecki and Lee Babbs – the latter making his competition debut – in the opening round of the first-to-21 competition.

The match pitted the winners of the previous open pairs competition against each other, with McDonald and Sadecki each looking to double up.

The game started briskly, with McDonald and Culbert racing into an early lead and going 18-4 up. Sadecki and Babbs made a brief comeback, but it was too late as they fell to a 21-10 loss.

Karen Howard and Denis Plant took on Gail Plant and John Howard in the next match, with the former duo taking an early lead. Gail and John caught up and led 8-7 at one stage, but Denis and Karen ran out 21-10 victors.

In the final, McDonald showed his experience and, on numerous occasions, put in touching woods on the jack.

Culbert played his part, supporting with some good woods.

Howard and Plant started slowly and found it hard going. They picked up some points, but the champions were too strong as they ran out 21-8 winners.

The Soccer Bar thanked everyone who entered, especially those who had not played the game before.

Another open blind pairs competition is scheduled for June. Anyone interested in playing can enter at the Soccer Bar.
