THE eagerly-eagerly 22nd running of the Lakeland Lanequest road cycling orienteering summer series sets off next week.

Competitors will descend on the Sun Inn, Hawkshead on Tuesday to take part in the popular six-event series which is open to cyclists of all abilities and ages (starts from 5.30pm-7pm).

The Lanequest series runs on Tuesday evenings in June and July, with competitors accumulating a best score from four out of the six races, and with classes to attract solo, pairs, generation and junior riders, there is plenty of choice.

Last year's 2016 champions triumphed in their classes out of a total series field of 350 riders, and will be keen to repeat last year's success.

They were Mike Toyn from Staveley (male solo class); Kendal's Helen Jackson (female solo class); Arnside's Bruce Attwood and Sally Ward (adult pairs/3s); George Attwood (juniors); and Paul and Jim O'Reilly (generation pairs).

Lakeland Lanequests was conceived by Oxen Park-based former international female orienteer Carol McNeil more than 22 years ago, and are mainly fun events for cyclists of all abilities, but they hotly contested at the top.

The second event will start from the Royal Oak, Spark Bridge on Tuesday June 13.

The events usually raise around £350 for charity, and can attract in excess of 150 riders. Entries on the night are accepted, but pre-event registration online preferred.
